What if Kobe Bryant was never traded? Chapter I: A New Mentor

2020.09.21 19:21 smellyhippo69 What if Kobe Bryant was never traded? Chapter I: A New Mentor

One of my favorite things to do in Basketball GM is play out different what-if scenarios in NBA history. I thought I’d do a write-up for one of my favorite scenarios and post it here.
This scenario starts in the 1996-97 season with 100% real player determinism. I used 100% real player determinism because this would be a very boring scenario if Kobe just turned into a bust. All I did was use God Mode to swap Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant. Then, I entered Spectator Mode and watched the scenario unfold.
1996-97: Kobe Bryant remains in Charlotte, where he is the 6th man behind a starting lineup of Mugsy Bogues, Dell Curry, Mario Elie, Glen Rice, and Anthony Mason. Kobe has a rough rookie year averaging only 9.1pts, 2.8trb, and 0.7ast in 21.9 minutes. His highest scoring game was only 24 against Vancouver. Even without a large contribution from Bryant, the Hornets are able to sneak into the playoffs as the 8th seed with a record of 39-43, and Glen Rice makes the All-Star game. There they face the Chicago Bulls, setting up a playoff matchup between MJ and Kobe. Sadly for Kobe, he is not yet a star and averages only 7.6pts in the series as the Hornets lose in 5 games. Jordan goes on to win his fifth ring.
Awards: Champs: Chicago Bulls; Finals MVP: Michael Jordan (CHI); MVP: Michael Jordan (CHI); DPOY: Chris Webber (WSB); ROY: Allen Iverson (PHI)
1997 Offseason: The Knicks draft Tracy McGrady; The Nuggets draft Tim Duncan; The Bucks draft Chauncey Billups; The Raptors draft Derek Anderson; The Hornets draft DeJuan Wheat; The Hornets sign Shareef Abdur-Rahim (Don’t ask me how his contract was up after only his rookie year); The Nuggets sign Wesley Person; The Grizzlies sign Tim Hardaway; The Hornets sign Bobby Phills
1997-98: The Hornets decide to switch up their lineup this year starting: Anthony Goldwire, Kobe Bryant, Glen Rice, Shareef Abdur-Raheem, and Anthony Mason. This new lineup seems to work as the Hornets go 49-33, good enough for the 2nd seed in the East, and Glen Rice makes the All-Star game. Kobe steps it up this year, averaging 13.7pts, 3.8trb, and 3.2ast. His highest scoring game was 26pts against Dallas. In the playoffs, the Hornets face an Antoine Walker led Boston team in the first round and win in 5 games. Next round, the Hornets face the 6th-seeded Hawks led by Steve Smith, Mooki Blaylock, Christian Laettner, and Dikembe Mutombo. The Hawks are able to upset the Hornets, winning Game 7 by 4 behind 26pts from Steve Smith. Kobe averaged 15.1pts, 4.4trb, and 4.3ast in the playoffs.
Awards: Champs: Chicago Bulls; Finals MVP: Toni Kukoc (CHI); MVP: Karl Malone (UTA); DPOY: Kevin Garnett (MIN); ROY: Tim Duncan (DEN)
1998 Offseason: The Cavaliers draft Mike Bibby; The Pistons draft Paul Pierce; The Magic draft Peja Stojakovic; The Heat draft Dirk Nowitzki; The Spurs draft Vince Carter; The Supersonics draft Larry Hughes; The Raptors draft Rashard Lewis; The Pacers draft Antawn Jamison; The Bucks draft Ricky Davis; The Hornets draft J.R. Henderson; The Hornets draft Jahidi White; The Hornets sign Michael Jordan; The Bulls sign Rasheed Wallace; The Suns sign Michael Finley. The Hornets sign George Lynch.
1998-99: After winning his sixth title, Michael Jordan heads home to North Carolina, so that he can mentor the young Kobe Bryant. The Hornets begin the year with the promising starting lineup of Bobby Phills, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Glen Rice, and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. However, Jordan and Rice both struggle with injuries as the Hornets finish with a disappointing 44-38 record and finish sixth in the East. Shareef Abdur-Rahim is the team’s leader this as he makes his first All-Star team and is named to the All-NBA and All-Defensive Third Teams. Bryant’s production stagnates this year, due to the addition of Michael Jordan. Kobe’s best game came against the Heat with Jordan injured in which he scored 24pts. He averages 13.2pts, 5.0trb, and 3.6ast. In the playoffs, the Hornets sweep the Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose Pacers in the first round. In the second round, the Hornets face the Atlanta Hawks, led by Darrell Armstrong, Mookie Blaylock, Steve Smith, and Kendall Gill, for the second year in a row. This time, the Hornets are able to win in six games behind solid scoring from Rice, Abdur-Rahim, Jordan, and Bryant. In the Conference Finals, the Hornets face off against the Orlando Magic, led by Penny Hardaway, Peja Stojakovic, and Nick Anderson. The Magic begin the series dominant, winning the first two games by more than 30 points each. However, the Hornets are able to rally, winning the next 4 games to advance to the NBA Finals. In the Finals, the Hornets face the top seed from the West, the Portland Trailblazers. The Trailblazers won 61 games behind a strong core of Rod Strickland, Tyrone Nesby, Walt Williams, Clifford Robinson, and Vlade Divac. Portland jumps to an early 3-1 series lead, but the Hornets are able to stay alive and force a Game 7. In Game 7, the Trailblazers are up by 16pts with 7:30 left. Then, Jordan goes on a tear, closing the gap and taking the lead with 1:03 to go. With the Trail Blazers up by 2 with 0:28 seconds left, Kobe Bryant turns the ball over, costing the Hornets the series and giving Jordan his first Finals loss. Kobe Bryant averaged 13.8pts, 4.5trb, and 3.1ast in the Playoffs.
Awards: Champs: Portland Trailblazers; Finals MVP: Vlade Divac (POR); MVP: Karl Malone (UTA); DPOY: Kevin Garnett (MIN); ROY: Peja Stojakovic (ORL)
1999 Offseason: The Bucks draft Shawn Marion; The Cavaliers draft Elton Brand; The Raptors draft Steve Francis; The Heat draft Baron Davis; the Rockets draft Ron Artest; The Celtics draft Jason Terry; The Wizards draft Andre Miller; The Clippers draft Kendric Tate; The Suns draft James Posey; The Mavericks draft Corey Maggette; The Hornets draft Adrian Griffin; The Hornets draft Edgaras Janavicius; The Hornets re-sign Kobe Bryant to a two-year contract worth $11M a year; The Jazz sign Ray Allen; The Rockets trade Ron Artest to the Magic for Penny Hardaway; The Kings sign Karl Malone; The Bucks sign Steve Nash; The Hornets sign John Crotty.
1999-00: The Hornets start the season with a starting lineup of Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Glen Rice, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, and Anthony Mason. During the season, the Hornets trade Michael Jordan to the Bulls for Luc Longley and a 2nd round pick and trade Bobby Phills and a first round pick to the Suns for Ruben Patterson. The Hornets starting lineup at the end of the season is Kobe Bryant, Ruben Patterson, Glen Rice, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, and Anthony Mason. Despite their many personnel changes, the Hornets are able to finish sixth in the East with a 46-36 record and have two All-Stars, Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Anthony Mason. Abdur-Rahim also appears on the All-NBA and All-Defensive Third Teams. Kobe averages 16.0pts, 4.6trb, and 5.3ast. He has the first 30 point game of his career this year against the Los Angeles Lakers. In the playoffs, the Hornets face the Detroit Pistons, who are led by Grant Hill, Paul Pierce, and Lindsey Hunter. Bryant misses the series with a fractured foot, and the Hornets lose in 4 games.
Awards: Champs: Los Angeles Lakers; Finals MVP: Shaquille O’Neal (LAL); MVP: Tim Duncan (DEN); DPOY: Chris Webber (WSB); ROY: Elton Brand (CLE)
2000 Offseason: The Suns draft Stephen Jackson; The Bucks draft Hedo Turkoglu; The Grizzlies draft Jamal Crawford; The Clippers draft Michael Redd; The Hornets draft Brian Cardinal; The Hornets draft Jake Tsakilidis; The Hornets draft Zendon Hamilton; The Kings sign Jerry Stackhouse; The Warriors sign Tracy McGrady; The Nets sign Eddie Jones; The Mavericks trade Jason Kidd to the Grizzlies for Bob Sura; The 76ers sign Shareef Abdur-Rahim; The Hornets trade Jason Sasser to the Spurs for Rick Fox; The Trailblazers sign Derek Anderson; The Hornets trade Ruben Patterson to the Clippers for Michael Redd; The Hornets sign Emanual Davis.
2000-01: With the loss of Abdur-Rahim, the Hornets start Emanual Davis, Kobe Bryant, Rick Fox, Glen Rice, and Anthony Mason. Now the number one option, Bryant has a breakout year. He averages 24.2pts, 6.2trb, and 6.6ast and makes his first All-Star Team as well as the All-NBA Second Team. Bryant has two triple doubles this year: 19pts 10trb 15ast against the Magic and 24pts 10trb 11ast against the Timberwolves. Kobe’s highest scoring game this year came against the Mavericks in a game where he scored 42pts. Despite Bryant’s success, the Hornets struggle and finish with a 27-55 record.
Awards: Champs: Sacramento Kings; Finals MVP: Jerry Stackhouse (SAC); MVP: Dirk Nowitzki (MIA); DPOY: Tracy McGrady (GS); ROY: Mike Miller (ORL).
2001 Offseason: The Supersonics draft Gilbert Arenas; The Celtics draft Andrei Kirilenko; The Rockets draft Pau Gasol; The Knicks draft Joe Johnson; The Hornets draft Shane Battier; The Magic draft Jason Richardson; The Timberwolves draft Richard Jefferson; The Lakers draft Gerald Wallace; The Hornets draft Joseph Forte; The Pacers sign Kobe Bryant to a three-year deal worth $14.07M a year; The Pistons sign Doug Christie; The Hawks sign Vince Carter; The Raptors sign Mike Bibby; The Heat sign Gary Payton; The Suns sign Kevin Garnett; The Knicks sign Peja Stojakovic; The Pacers sign Jason Kidd; The Kings sign Reggie Miller; The Nuggets sign Chris Webber; The Trailblazers sign Antawn Jamison; The Cavaliers sign Rasheed Wallace; The Bulls sign Tyson Wheeler; The Celtics sign Jamal Mashburn; The Nets sign Darrell Armstrong; The Pacers sign Horace Grant
Kobe Bryant leaves the struggling Charlotte Hornets to team up with Jason Kidd on the Indiana Pacers. He hopes to win his first title in the next chapter of his career. If you enjoyed Chapter I, let me know if you want to see Chapter II.

Thank you for all the support on part 1! I decided to draw a picture of what I was envisioning during the sniper scene in the first part which can be found here:
https://imgur.com/hmqJTnL
The sniper is Malcolm, and the spotter is Jackson. This is my idea for the human military design, or at least the Americans for now.
First/Next
05:24: Human FOB Convoy
“It still wouldn’t make sense, Malcolm, humvees are gas guzzlers and we packed light. Given our limited supply, the trucks make more sense. What does this thing get, 24 mpg?”
“I’m sure you’ll still feel that way when we’re hit with a plasma lance and the aluminum “armor” immediately melts.”
“Actually, I won’t feel much of anything, I’d be vaporized in under a second.”
“Silver linings.”
The convoy consisting of two pickup trucks and one 2 ½ ton carrier moved through the remains of Los Angeles, many buildings had been destroyed, but the majority of them stood as normal, just deserted. The .50’s on the technicals swept the ruins, checking for movement.
“I don’t know Jack, we have access to tank divisions, mortar squads, hell, there are entire platoons still combat-ready back at base, what is with all these small scale assaults? If we rushed their supply landings with a larger force, we could probably--”
An explosion knocked the pickup on its side, Malcolm was flung through the front windshield. The .50 on the middle truck began lighting up the nearby buildings.
Jackson came to, the crash combined with the roaring .50 behind him meant he only heard a high pitch ring. He was trapped on his side, pinned to the door with the seatbelt. Needing to get in the fight, he cut himself free from the seat and retrieved his rifle. Climbing into the front seat to exit through the broken windshield, the all too familiar popping of plasma throwers could be heard. He guessed roughly ten individuals.
“Fuck.... Yeah, something’s broken.” Malcolm held his left arm, apparently being thrown from a moving vehicle is a recipe for a fractured wrist. He drew his sidearm, and pushed through the door of a nearby building, beginning to scan the surroundings through the window.
They had been attacked at what used to be a four-way intersection. Taking fire from one side. In the typical simple alien fashion, what resembled a firing line, which had scattered once they started taking fire from the .50. They now hugged the side of the buildings, blindly firing their plasma throwers around corners.
The Xenos had lost the element of surprise. Human soldiers had taken cover behind the remaining vehicles and began returning fire.
One by one the enemy soldiers turned and fled, some successful, others were gunned down by the human kinetic weapons.
Once the gunfire had subsided, Malcolm emerged from the building and retrieved a shirt from the truck, which he fashioned into a sling. “Jackson, you good?”
“I got a shit load of broken glass in my arm, but other than that...”
“We’ll get fixed up back at home base. Alright, everyone! Ditch the downed technical, we need to get out of here before they get any reinforcements. Someone check on Macready, he was driving. He’s still in the truck.”
A field medic and another soldier pulled Macready from the wreckage, the medic checked him for breathing. “No pulse.”
“Alright, load his body into the carrier. The rest of you, get in a vehicle, wherever you can fit. We need to get out of here.”

991:34: GS: Urban Patrol 14
“It happened last night cycle at 890:12 Galactic Standard. He was struck by a human kinetic projectile, ballistics suggested fired from roughly 2300 meters away.”
“How were they able to get a drone past our perimeter defense?”
“There was no drone, two human males, we recovered the weapon they used in an abandoned building.”
“No drone? That’s impossible, no organic could hit a shot that far, especially with primitive human weapons.”
“Perhaps it had some technological assistance. The “rifle” was found missing certain pieces.”
The patrol group continued moving through the human buildings. Suddenly, one soldier raised his head and turned his ears toward the nearby road crossing. “I hear something, a low rumble, maybe human vehicles.”
“Line up! Get a plasma lance trained on that cross in the road!”
The aforementioned soldier moved forward, and crouched, mounting a plasma lance on his shoulder and supported by three of his arms. The first human “truck” came into view. He fired.
The lance was fired low, hitting the ground next to the front right of the truck, flipping it over and launching a human through the front glass shield. The rest of them opened fire with plasma throwers.
“Fire on the truck still standing! Before they figure out what’s going on!”
The patrol leader was too late, on the infernal human heavy “machine gun,” meant only to spit white-hot metal death absurdly quickly, trained on their position, it ripped through two of them before they were able to take cover.
“Human weaponry, so barbaric, they’re destroying their own buildings just to kill us!”
More human soldiers piled out of the larger truck and began firing on the patrol group. Knowing they couldn’t win, the rest of the patrol tried to run.
Grunt Valen watched as his companions were gunned down by the loud human kinetics. He didn’t care about following orders anymore and ran. Right as he was about to turn the corner onto another street, he looked back to watch his patrol leader get cut in half by the human fire.

I drew this after I posted: https://imgur.com/hmqJTnL
Part 2: https://www.reddit.com/HFY/comments/isq2bg/cover_is_always_important_2/
02:37: Council District 9, Los Angeles
“Roger that, Recon One, you have execute authority.”
“Understood, radio silence in effect… now.”
Then came that same, annoying sound that Chief Petty Officer Malcolm had grown to hate. The loading of a clunky, heavy, and irritating five-round magazine filled with 14.5mm armor-piercing into his rifle.
“Explain to me again what was wrong with .50,” Malcolm said to his spotter.
“My answer does not change no matter how many times you ask.”
“Well then maybe I just need a refresher, because every time I load one of these things I die a little inside.”
Jackson lowered his spotting scope and sighed, “their leadership has shown to be equipped with personal shielding technology, unlike their standard infantry. The only rifle cartridge we have access to that has consistently been proven to penetrate it is 14.5×114mm. Given that we are trying to hit this shot from 2,500 yards away, this is the only way it’ll be possible.”
“And why are we doing this instead of just bombing them?”
“The anti-aircraft batteries they constructed around the base have stopped everything we’ve thrown at them so far, but they have so little surveillance it's insane. So, two-man sniper team, any one of the buildings adjacent to the base, and you wind up with one dead alien general. At least, that is the hope.”
Malcolm finished loading and chambered a round, “Alright, get ready, the target should come into view in the next couple minutes. See that road leading into the gate-looking area? That should be where they pass.”
“I see it. Approximately 2,500 yards, minimal wind resistance, from ten stories up… Aim for center mass, the shields do jack and shit once they’ve been penetrated. Alert, target coming into view now. Slightly shorter than its flanking guards, grey uniform. You have the shot?”
“Target acquired.”
Malcolm knew he could make the shot. It was trivial, minimal wind, shooting a target moving at walking speed in a straight line. He thought the enemy’s choices were so reckless, maybe this will teach them to keep their heads down. He squeezed the trigger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
890:12 GS: "US" Landing One
“No general, we haven’t been able to push into the next quadrant. The cowardly primitives have hidden themselves in the abandoned buildings and only attack us in short strikes. They refuse to fight us properly.”
“No matter, we will purge their military soon enough, it will just take longer than we pre-”
He never finished the sentence. Without warning, the general was struck in his chest plate, blowing apart his midsection and throwing his corpse back into the wall behind him, spraying the nearby road, walls, and guards with blue blood and chunks of chitin. Three seconds later, a loud, roaring boom could be heard coming from the nearby structures.
Royal Guard Zeyeux dragged what was left of the general’s body behind a parked human vehicle. His companion began wildly firing plasma bolts into the surrounding abandoned buildings.
“Ka'zad, get down! Humans wouldn’t miss an opportunity to take out a Royal Guard!”
Royal Guard Ka'zad turned and ran toward the parked vehicle, right as he began to move another human projectile whizzed by, missing him by only a fraction of an inch. The wall behind him was hit and crumbled.
02:40: Council District 9, Los Angeles
Malcolm grimaced as he pulled his bolt action back once again, “Fuck, the one out in the open moved.”
“I told you we shouldn’t have tried, come on, we need to get out of here before they catch on, ditch the rifle, it’s no use to us now.”
“Good, I hate this damn thing.” Malcolm removed the scope from his rifle and threw it out a broken window, then the rifle he put under a table still standing in the building.
“Alright, let's go, we got about two miles to cover before we can break radio silence.”
Malcolm and Jackson slowly made their way down the stairs, watching their footing as much of the stairway had been destroyed by an explosion, likely from the initial invasion. They began moving from building to building, slowly going back towards their forward operating base.
Malcolm hated the walk home after an operation, they knew nothing about what enemies may be in between them and safety, combatants tend to become more unpredictable after you kill one of their leaders from within their own borders. “Were the Russians successful in their raid on the landing pad at Volgograd?”
Jackson shook his head slightly as he vaulted over a concrete barricade. “No, but according to them it was a moral victory, they managed to destroy what they believe was a command center, but they were driven back before they took the landing pad.”
“It’s not all bad then I suppose.”
“Maybe, but that landing pad is supplying the invaders’ entire Eurasia campaign, they better hope they’re able to take control of it.”
The duo continued to move through the former office buildings. Malcolm checked his digital map. “We just passed the radio silence border, Jack.”
“Alright, I’ll relay.” Jackson fumbled with his radio attachment on his lightweight vest. “Commander this is Recon One, come in Commander.”
“Roger, Recon One, what is your mission status?”
“Target eliminated, expect us back at the forward operating base in approximately two hours.”
“Acknowledged, we will relay to the FOB to pack up and be ready to leave when you return. Good Kill.”

2020.09.09 09:32 elementrix_26 mother with rights breaks our ninted two switches, ends up paying us $ 15,000 and 15 years in jail

Background story: It was in January before the pandemic and at Christmas both me and my friend in this story who we will call Sergio gave us some nintendos switch (to me the 2017 version and the Lite version pokemon sword and shield), now we have to To say that Sergio is 19 years old now and I have known him for a long time (I was 14 years old in January) and Sergio studied self-defense for 6 years and had in his arms a type of bracelet where he wore nightwing-style combat bars (yes I'm a fan of DC) and pepper spray oh, and that is very high (1.90) and I who 6 months ago also got into personal defense (average 1.74) now if we go with the history made up of:
Sergio: something huge, sturdy and intimidating.
Karen: Crazy who looks like she came from Arkham asylum itself.
ND: child with rights who seemed to be about 16 years old but his age will surprise you.}
GS: security guard
P1: police 1.
P2: police 2.
Q: Father of ND and very good people.
and me: He who is above all races (guess who this phrase is).
History:
Well, it was January and it was very hot so Sergio and I decided to go out with our nintendo and its accessories to go out and have fun and refresh ourselves, so around 6:00 PM we were in a famous shopping center in my country and we went to order Something to eat in the food court and while we wait (and we wait a lot) we diverted to a video game store to see what games we want to buy next and in those they call us to receive our order and there we were playing in the food court while Nd (measures 1.80) comes close to us:
ND: hey, is that a nintendos switch ?? !!
Me: yes, they are.
ND: Could you lend it to me. (It should be noted that I have trust and security problems due to problems with the school)
Me: No, sorry (sounding as polite as possible).
ND already a little annoyed: Then give me yours and your friend's. me with a Wtf face? and sergio with the face of "are you okay, mijo?" (mike wazowski's).
Me: Sorry, what did you say?
ND: I WANT YOUR NINTEDO NOW !!!!!
Me: Nel pie, we tried really hard to get these consoles.
ND: I don't mind give it to me now !! (while extending his hand).
I (already knowing how this is going I say): Not now go before I denounce you for harassment. Then Nd starts throwing a tantrum that even my 3-year-old nephew does and then he goes away. He thought it was all, but how naive he was, five minutes later MD comes (who is around 1.68, is very pretty and a little body and don't get me wrong) goes to us and says.
MD: WHY DON'T YOU GIVE MY ANGEL THEIR CONSOLES. Me: why are they ours?
MD: But he wants them, so give it to him }
Me: You two are nothing and nobody to take away our belongings !!!
MD: I DON'T CARE GIVE IT TO ME NOW AND WITH YOUR CELL PHONES AND ALL THAT SHIT YOU HAVE, NOW AND THEY BUY US SOME BURGERS BUT LIKE NOW.
Me (sarcastically): and he's going to want a coffee with his order or some complaints of harassment or he already gets some good free beatings to shut his fucking mouth. Md slaps me, but I don't do anything to him (first because I have great patience and second because at home they instilled in me the courage not to hit a woman). Nd wants to grab the console but sergio stops him, so the MD wants to hit him but I stop and face her and then in ND he pushes me and says.
ND: METETE WITH ME HAVE Sergio fed up with this shit (I have to say that he is a bit temperamental and gets angry easily), he stops and gets between me and ND who shrink just by looking at him. Then because of the commotion the guard comes and says:
G: What the fuck is going on here?!?!
Md: This mucus-
I interrupt her and say: If you are going to say your shit that we stole your son's console and that we attacked him then shut up !!! and I tell him our whole version.
G: is this true ma'am ??
MD: No, these brats robbed us and wanted to hit !!!!
Sergio: Let's have a look at the security camera. MD and ND go white.
G: Good idea, accompanied. Then Sergio, when putting both switches in their respective cases, before closing both DMs he grabs them and throws them, they collided with a wall before falling into a fountain.
MD: IF I DON'T HAVE THEM NOBODY WILL HAVE THEM. And it runs away. And all pissed off I go after her but Nd gets in my way but Sergio takes it and they start to fight while MD runs away, so I consider myself somewhat slow but that day I ran like hell and managed to tackle her at the door of a restaurant knocking down and breaking the door (I'm not exaggerating as the restaurant door was already very old and made a squeaking sound every time it was opened) and knocking over a table. Then MD starts to scratch me and hit my face but I in my anger grabbed a glass thrown on the floor and I break it on her face, disfiguring it then she hits me with much more force until the guard comes and knocks me down and MD stands up and I tried to step on my head with his heel but the P1 shoots him with a taser and he falls to the ground. So I leave the restaurant and see Sergio and ... oh my god. I see him with several cuts and his branded clothes (his parents are average up so they could afford such a luxury) ruined. and a razor embedded in his abdomen. And ND was worse, not even in the zombie movies they showed so much blood, he had a broken head with several bruises and torn clothes with some protruding teeth and Sergio's bars had blood. Then they took us to the police station that was one block from the shopping center and there they showed the security videos rather than the police took some witnesses. Then came Fr.
Q: I finally found you Karen (yes, that's what I call her).
MD:RAUL GET ME OUT OF HERE NOW !!!
Q: I AM NOT GOING TO DO IT, NOW YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES AND YOUR MICHAEL (I mean ND), how disappointed I am in you.
So Karen had to pay us $ 15,000 (they didn't take us to the hospital because our injuries weren't that serious so they treated us at the police station and Sergio got stitches and they put alcohol and bandages on us) and they paid 15 years in jail but he was They added other charges for similar things and another charge was imposed on the MD because he apparently lost custody of his son when he was a minor and then kidnapped him. In total ND (who was actually 19 years old WTF ???) was given 25 years and MD was given 45 years. P apologized profusely and we accepted them (he was a good guy), then it was already 8:00 PM and the mall closed at 11:00 PM so we went back, bought some clothes for Sergio but less expensive (well he didn't care) and leaving the store G approached us with a bag containing our ninety switches and our broken cell phones. G: Do you guys still want her? Me: No sir, I don't want to see my babies, just take it with you. We went to buy in the video game store and we bought the consoles (but I the version of the 2019 XD) and Sergio also the lite version pokemon sword and shield, our accessories (and we were able to buy the SMASH ULTIMATE and THE SPLATOON 2 and new better than old cell phones and other accessories for the switch) End.📷
If you want me to put more stories leave more stories tell me and I do it because in my now fifteen years of life I have come across several karens and I know people with the same anecdotes.
what I write is not important for the story I am only writing it in Spanish(lo que escribo no es importante para la historia solo la estoy escribiendo en español)
Sergio: cosa enorme algo fornido e intimidante.

2020.09.09 09:09 elementrix_26 mother with rights breaks our nintendos switches, ends up paying us $ 15,000 plus 15 years in jail

Background story:
It was in January before the pandemic and at Christmas both me and my friend in this story who we will call Sergio gave us some nintendos switch (to me the 2017 version and the Lite version pokemon sword and shield), now we have to To say that Sergio is 19 years old now and I have known him for a long time (I was 14 years old in January) and Sergio studied self-defense for 6 years and had in his arms a type of bracelet where he wore nightwing-style combat bars (yes I'm a fan of DC) and pepper spray oh, and that is very high (1.90) and I who 6 months ago also got into personal defense (average 1.74) now if we go with the history made up of:
Sergio: something huge, sturdy and intimidating.
Karen: Crazy who looks like she came from Arkham asylum itself.
ND: child with rights who seemed to be about 16 years old but his age will surprise you. GS: security guard
P1: police 1.
P2: police 2.
Q: Father of ND and very good people.
and me: He who is above all races (guess who this phrase is).
History: Well, it was January and it was very hot so Sergio and I decided to go out with our nintendo and its accessories to go out and have fun and refresh ourselves, so around 6:00 PM we were in a famous shopping center in my country and we went to order Something to eat in the food court and while we wait (and we wait a lot) we diverted to a video game store to see what games we want to buy next and in those they call us to receive our order and there we were playing in the food court while Nd (measures 1.80) comes close to us:
MD: But he wants them, so give it to him
Me: You two are nothing and nobody to take away our belongings !!!
MD: No, these brats robbed us and wanted to rob me !!!!
We went to buy in the video game store and we bought the consoles (but I the version of the 2019 XD) and Sergio also the lite version pokemon sword and shield, our accessories (and we were able to buy the SMASH ULTIMATE and THE SPLATOON 2 and new better than old cell phones and other accessories for the switch) End.
If you want me to put more stories just tell me because in my now fifteen years of life I have come across several karens and I know people with similar experiences
P.D: what I'm writing is not important, it's just the story in Spanish (esto que estoy escribiendo no es importante es solo la historia al español).
Sergio: cosa enorme algo fornido e intimidante.

2020.09.05 03:29 kriegercontainers Introduction to Libertarian 1: Affordable Housing

Howdy!
I am tired of the low-effort posts on this subreddit and the massive influx of liberals. More than anything I feel you liberals are extremely uneducated about the realities of government. So, every week (if I have time) I will write a new post. This one is affordable housing.
I refuse to call it affordable housing. I instead call it government subsidized housing. Government subsidized housing is roughly 25-35% more expensive to build than market-rate housing. This is dollar for dollar, same product, any location. Whenever a politicians touts that they want more affordable housing, if their intent is to building it via government programs what they are really saying is they want to increase the overall cost of housing by 25%.
Don't believe me? I am in Houston, TX. Let's look at government construction costs.
First link- Texas high schools costs an average $225/sqft to build. I have a friend that built a high end custom home for someone in River Oaks (one of Houston's wealthiest neighborhoods). It has mahogany on many walls. It did not cost $225/sqft. An average townhome is roughly $95/sqft.
The City of Houston is building 250 homes for $16mil. That's $64,000/home in subsidies alone to this development. The best part is that the builder is going to be paid at the sale of homes the contract rate, which is set to be $180,000. All-in, the developer is being paid $240,000 per home to build a shitty 950-1,150 sqft home. The developer is set to make bank on these. He should. His name is Mr. Burghli and he is a big time donor to mayor Sylvester Turner. Check out the homes he builds! This is just the subsidies you see here.I had to research this particular guy because he is doing a Developer Participation Contract that my wife and I were forced into. You see, I wanted to build a home and needed to connect sewer. For me? One of the last contacts I had with the contracting agent asked me to change from black to blue ink on my signatures... because fuck me, right? The mayor hates me. His buddy got through just fine. Paid bonuses and all the fees waived. Over $1.4mil in subsidies for this development on top of the stuff before. That's right, the city covered the land, the infrastructure, and $60,000/home for a 1,000sqft home that the developer gets to sell at a market rate. Nice! It pays to pay the leaders of your city!
I can't even be too angry with Houston. San Fransisco pays $750,000 for "affordable housing". Los Angeles is gaining on them! Theirs costed $500,000 to build. You can google just about any city in the US (especially one with a Democrat mayor) and you will find the same story over and over. Nothing they build is affordable.
Those are government construction projects. What about the market? Regulatory costs are now 24% of new construction costs. To put that in perspective, if you are angry at $400,000 townhomes you should remember that you could make them $300,000 townhomes just by removing the government. They come in all different forms of costs, whether it by zoning clowns keeping people from building what the market wants to actual injustice. The International Code Council allows any inspector at any time in a building process to fail a jobsite without even written justification. I actually called the head inspector for the City of Houston in a fit, exasperated at the ridiculous inspections, and told him "Bobby, the door is open and I won't be there. Just tell the inspector to do whatever he has to and leave". The inspector showed up with a police escort (because arguing with inspectors is threatening), wrote "locked" on the door, and failed the inspection while leaving. Seriously. There is no recourse to it. If they don't like you, you lose. If they ask for a bribe... pay it. Or else.
I hope you got this far and are asking yourself- but why? It's easy to understand!
First, they do their best to be as complicated as possible to reduce any and all risk. Here is a google search for a specifications to a construction plan. The average planset is going to be roughly 180-250 pages for constructing a high school. Then, the specifications are usually around 1,000 pages. The top link for me was 800 pages (wow! Brief!). They have to tell you exactly what kind of product down to every damn detail for every item in the building. Everything has to have some kind of government inspected rating at every turn. Almost everything is crazy expensive materials because, well, who cares if the paint is $5/gallon more? It's better paint? Right? Oh man, that increased just the painting cost by $10,000? Well... I guess construction costs are going up! What can you do! This is every step of the process.
Second, the architects and engineers don't care about cost. Architectural metal panels are a niche product where you are shaping usually aluminum around insulation. They look like this. They are one of the most expensive exterior finishes out there. Most schools have them. If you work for a firm that does government work, vendors will come in and give you crazy expensive furniture with the hope that you specify them in the new plans you are making. Once it says "$1,500 office chair, brand name" in the description, the contractor has to use it. Period. No regular builder or owner would ever do this. You can't bribe people to spend more of their own money. You can bribe people to spend other people's money though.
Third, it's a "riskless" product and that is expensive. Every contractor requires a large, expensive performance and payment bond to do the work. The contracts will be massive. They will require so many legal documents you will blow your brains out. The actual work on a project that I did costed roughly $50,000. By the end of the job I had paid over $50,000 in engineering, legal fees, and time spent in process. Insanity. The contracts alone on the painting contract are 55 pages (sometimes more). Everyone needs an attorney, more insurance, bonds, safety classes, you name it. There is always risk in the market. I might not do a 20 page contract because I don't want to waste my day on it. The government will make it 40 pages- just in case.
Fourth, it aint even about construction. Congress passed an act in 1931 that makes people pay prevailing wages. I'm a market kind of guy. The prevailing wage is what the market will pay (pretty much by definition). But not for these clowns. No, this is a made-up rate that is usually more expensive. Contractors must pay their employees this must, at least. You got a better deal and people who want to work? Sorry. Can't do it. And the workers will need workers comp, benefits, employment history, and the whole works. You can't hire people off the street to work on government projects. It's basically illegal. I've seen all kinds of cronyism inside these regulations. I saw one regulation where a high school locker room had to use bricks manufactured within 100 miles of the project... and there was only one brick plant in that area. Hmmm. I guess that is why the bricks costed twice as much. You can't find efficiency in the work. It's a rigid process that has nothing to do with building.
Fifth, there is no market pressure to do better and no liability! Imagine that the DMV was the agency inspecting your vehicle every time you needed to register it... It's about that bad. The city employees sit around jerking themselves off about how they are saving lives. Then, when a building collapses like what happened in New Orleans they point the finger anywhere else. The engineer, contractor, or owners might be liable. The dozen city inspectors who reviewed the plans, signed off on the inspections, and certified the project will not be liable. Period. I can't even figure out what the inspection process actually does. It does not certify a quality job. Seriously, it has no guarantee at all. So, why would they do better? Why improve? And what are they improving?
Finally, they do it because you don't give a shit about the market. You voted for all of these people. When was the last time you voted for less regulatory burden? You care about workers receiving a "fair" wage, about promoting minority businesses, about having a nice school for your kids, about your house being inspected more times for "safety", about increasing permitting fees to pay for your other joke programs, about zoning regulations to keep density out of your precious city, about making buildings "greener" through some kind of bizarre energy code change that doesn't really work anyways, or about dozens and dozens of other regulations that add layers and layers of cost. You did this. We did this.
Thanks for reading!

2020.08.26 09:27 majinmattossj2 Brazilian Big12 series, Episode 7/12: Internacional

Previous episodes: Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense, Grêmio, Botafogo, Atlético Mineiro
In this series I will present each of the 12 Brazilian teams that together compose the "Big 12". My point is to make them more knowledgeable to you, since each one of these teams have their share of the Brazil national team success and of Brazilian club football accomplishments as a whole. I'll try to be as smooth, efficient and non-boring as I can. If the feedback is positive, I'll keep bringing more to this series. So ok, let's do this!
Method: I'll present the teams in a chronological order, from the oldest foundation (Flamengo-1895) to the latest one (São Paulo-1930). The order will be: Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense, Grêmio, Botafogo, Atlético Mineiro, Internacional, Corinthians, Santos, Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, São Paulo. How many of these have you heard of?
Extra clubs: Due to a high number of requests, I'll also present 3 teams who don't belong to the Big12, but are also considered big clubs in Brazil: Bahia, Athletico Paranaense and Coritiba. Welcome to the club!
Geographical reference: Before we start, I'd like to ask something very simple from you. I want you to keep in mind that these 12 teams are spread in 4 different States in Brazil. The club's State name is written below, next to the club's name. It has a direct link to Google Maps, so that you can check it out to make this experience more accurate.

Episode 7/12: Internacional (State: Rio Grande do Sul), founded in 1909

State rival: Grêmio

The first decades
Internacional was founded in 1909 by a Brazilian journalist and his brothers, who wanted to integrate different nationalities into a club, in a time when non-German descendants had a hard time finding a club. In that time, there wasn't a National League yet - due to the country's bigness and weak infrastructure -, so the teams would play in their State Leagues until 1959. Until then, Internacional won 15 State Leagues (their rival Grêmio, 9), with notably 8 titles in the 1940s by the "Steamroller" team. What probably helped Internacional in this period was the acceptance of black players since 1928, while it took Grêmio until 1952 to do so.
Falcão and the Golden Era: 1969-1979
After a difficult 1960s decade due to the construction of the Beira-Rio stadium (though getting 2 National League runner-up spots in 1967 and 1968), Internacional was ready to shine, beginning with their new stadium inauguration in 1969.
In this 11-year period, the club won 9 State Leagues and 3 Brazilian Leagues (1975, 1976, 1979), with a notable Invincible title in 1979.
In the 9 State League titles campaigns, Internacional performed overall with 125W-29D-3L, or 89% of the points. In the 3 National Leagues titles campaigns, they managed a record of 54W-16D-6L, or 82% of the points.
In the 1975-76 back-to-back Brazilian League titles, Internacional was led by the world-class players Figueroa and Falcão, and also names like Manga, Carpegiani, Valdomiro and Lula, all of them elected to the League's Best XI, and also with at least 10 caps for the Brazilian NT (in Figueroa's case, the Chilean NT).
In 1975, after three group stages, Internacional met in the semi-finals the crazy Fluminense of Rivellino, Carlos Alberto Torres and PC Caju. Playing at the Maracanã, Internacional won 2-0, with two stunning goals after two brilliant assists (52s video). In the big final against Cruzeiro, at home, Internacional beat them 1-0, with a very solid match by their GK Manga, and an interesting goal by Figueroa: the sun shone at his exact spot at the moment of the goal, being therefore called The Enlightened goal. Flávio, from Internacional, was the league topscorer, with 16 goals.
In 1976, after winning a record 8-consecutive State League titles and being knocked off of the Copa Libertadores by Cruzeiro (in a crazy 4-5 defeat), Internacional would meet Atlético Mineiro in the semis of the Brazilian League. The opponents opened the score, but Batista tied it with a nice shot from the outside of the area at '28. At '91, Falcão scored the winning goal, after an amazing one-two with the head with teammate Escurinho, from the outside of the area until the back of the net. Internacional would then play against Corinthians in the big final, who had defeated Fluminense in the other semis. Without problems, Internacional beat them 2-0, with goals from Dario and Valdomiro, to be crowned Brazilian champions for the 2nd time in a row - with Figueroa winning the league Golden Ball, and Dario being the topscorer with 28 goals.
Invincibles 1979: the team that never lost
For the first time in the modern era (post-1971) of the Brazilian League, and an unique feat until today, a team was able to win the league undefeated. Internacional 1979 played 23 matches, with 16 wins and 7 draws. It wasn't the same brilliant team from 1975-76, but they still counted with their star player Falcão, aged 26, and a very strong roster. After three group stages, they faced the Palmeiras of Telê Santana in the semis, national champions twice in the 1970s. In the 1st leg in São Paulo, Palmeiras opened the score, but Jair equalized. Palmeiras scored again at '55, but Falcão's star shone brighter as he equalized from a header, before scoring the winning goal at '70, ending the match with a 3-2. In the 2nd leg, at home, a 1-1 tie guaranteed Internacional in the big final of the league, against Roberto Dinamite's Vasco.
Without Falcão for the final's 1st leg away, at the Maracanã, Internacional still managed to win the match 2-0, with both goals from Chico Spina: one in the 1st half, and the other in the 2nd half. In the 2nd leg, at home, Internacional opened the score with Jair, and Falcão scored the 2nd goal, before Vasco scored once and the match ended with a 2-1 win for Internacional, who won their 3rd league title in the decade. Falcão, like in 1978, was elected the tournament's best player, winning the Golden Ball.
1980s: the Silver Era
In the 1980s, Internacional finished 2nd in the 1980 Copa Libertadores, 1987 and 1988 Brazilian Leagues.
In 1980, Falcão's last season before moving to Italy to become King of Rome, Internacional reached the Copa Libertadores final, after topping their two group stages. After a tie at home in the final's 1st leg, they lost 0-1 to Nacional, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
In 1987, they lost the national league final to Flamengo (1-1 and 0-1), and in 1988, to Bahia (1-2 and 0-0).
Internacional main team also represented Brazil in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, losing in the final to France (0-2).
However, Internacional was able to win a friendly tournament in Spain, the Juan Gamper 1982 Trophy. After beating Maradona's Barcelona in the Camp Nou (0,0; PK: 4-1), they beat Manchester City 3-1 in the final, becoming the first and only non-European team to win the trophy. Internacional also won four consecutive state league titles (1981-84).
The 1992 Copa do Brasil
In 1989, the Copa do Brasil was created, and it took 4 seasons for Internacional to win their only national cup, in 1992. They beat Muniz Freire (3-1, 5-0), Corinthians (4-0, 0-0), Grêmio (1-1, 1-1, PK 3-0), Palmeiras (2-0, 2-1) and Fluminense (1-2, 1-0) before being crowned champions. Highlights to the final's 2nd leg, when they scored the trophy-winning goal at '88 from a penalty kick, after missing this absurd opportunity.
Later in the 90s, they reached the semi-finals of the 1997 Brasileirão and of the 1999 Copa do Brasil. However, at the end of the 1999 season, Internacional escaped from relegation in the last league round, with a goal from their idol Dunga, against Palmeiras, at home. Internacional also won 4 state league titles in the 1990s.
2006-2011: International Glory - the 2nd Golden Era
Inter invested in their youth system at the turn of the century, providing the football world with names like Lúcio, Fábio Rochemback, Daniel Carvalho, Nilmar, Alexandre Pato and Rafael Sóbis, with some of them participating in the club's golden era.
After 4 consecutive state league titles in the early 2000s, and also reaching the Copa Sudamericana SF and QF in 2004 and 2005, Internacional was getting close to win a major title. In the 2005 Brazilian League, they finished 2nd, in one of the most controversial scandals of the history of the tournament, with the discovery of 11 matches fixed in Kia Joorabchian's MSI/Corinthians favor. Even if all the matches were played again, Internacional was immensely damaged by a referee in their decisive match against Corinthians, when this criminal penalty was not awarded to Internacional and the forward was sent off for simulation. Internacional finished 2nd, behind Corinthians, and had to content themselves with a Copa Libertadores spot.
Between 2006 and 2011, Internacional won 2 Copa Libertadores, 1 Club World Cup, 1 Copa Sudamericana and 2 Recopa Sudamericana - 6 international trophies. They also finished 2nd in 2 Brazilian Leagues, 1 Copa do Brasil and 1 Recopa Sudamericana.
The 2006 Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup dream
In 2006, Internacional won the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup, after beating São Paulo (2-1, 2-2) and Barcelona (1-0) in the finals.

In the continental campaign, they topped their group stage with 4W-2D, placing 2nd overall in the cup. Highlights to their 2 comeback victories against Pumas (Mexico), and to Rubens Cardoso difficult goal against Nacional (Uruguay).
In the ro16, Inter made a 2-1 comeback against Nacional, in Uruguay, with goals from Jorge Wagner in the 1st half, and this painting of a goal from Rentería. At home, a 0-0 draw qualified Inter to the quarter-finals, even though Nacional (Uruguay) had 2 goals wrongly disallowed.
In the quarter-finals, Inter lost the 1st leg 1-2 in Ecuador, to LDU. At home, Rafael Sóbis opened the score at '51 and Rentería scored this beautiful goal at '86 to put Inter in the semis.
In the semi-finals, Inter held a 0-0 tie in Paraguay against Libertad, with an incredible ball hitting the post, the back of Internacional GK and then going out at '86. At home, Inter opened the score with Alex and closed the 2-0 score with a goal from Fernandão.
In the big final, against current champions São Paulo, Inter played the 1st leg away and opened the score at '54 with Rafael Sóbis, who also scored the 2nd goal at '62, helping his team to leave with a 2-1 advantage for the 2nd leg at home. Fernandão opened the score at '29, after a huge mistake by legendary GK Rogério Ceni. São Paulo tied at '50, but Tinga scored at '70 and was sent off for taking his shirt off. São Paulo tied again at '85, and almost scored the trophy goal at '90. The match ended 2-2 at '93, and Internacional were crowned continental champions for the first time, thus qualifying to the Club World Cup in Japan.
2006 Club World Cup - dream victory against Barcelona's Ronaldinho
After beating Al-Ahly (Egypt) in the semis, with goals from the upcoming talent Alexandre Pato at '23 and Luiz Adriano at '71, Internacional would face the Barcelona of Ronaldinho in the final, undefeated champions of Europe.
It would be a very climatic final, due to the fact that Ronaldinho was revealed to football by Internacional's archrival Grêmio, which was also the club he supported since he was a kid. The GreNal rivalry (Grêmio vs. Internacional, one of the fiercest in South America) around this match was intense, not only because of Dinho, but also because Grêmio were the only club world champions of the state, since their 1983 title.
In a very open game, with a few real chances from Barcelona, Internacional defense were very solid. At minute 82, Iarley performed a nice nutmeg in Puyol and passed to Adriano Gabiru, who scored the only goal of the match, that would crown Internacional Club World champions. Two minutes later, Inter GK Clemer saved this dangerous shot from Deco. At '93, the match was over, and the world turned red.
Internacional - 1 Barcelona - 0
1. Clemer 1. Victor Valdés
2. Ceará 11. Zambrotta (Belletti)
3. Índio 4. Rafa Márquez

7. Alex (Vargas) 20. Deco
9. Fernandão (c) (Adriano Gabiru) 8. Giuly
10. Iarley 10. Ronaldinho
11. Pato (Luiz Adriano) 7. Gudjohnsen (Ezquerro)
Abel Braga Frank Rijkaard
Internacional ended the magical 2006 season finishing 2nd in the Brazilian League, and posteriorly won the International Treble in 2007, with the 2007 Recopa Sudamericana victory against Pachuca (Mexico) (1-2, 4-0).
2008: Copa Sudamericana
In 2008, led by Tite (coach), Alex, Nilmar and D'Alessandro, Internacional won the Copa Sudamericana (Southamerican version of the Europa League) undefeated (5W-5D). They beat on the way to the title: Grêmio (1-1, 2-2), Universidad Católica (Chile) (1-1, 0-0), Boca Juniors (Argentina) (2-0, 2-1), Chivas (Mexico) (2-0, 4-0) and Estudiantes (Argentina) (1-0, 1-1).
Highlights to their 85th minute tie-goal in Chile in the ro16 under a crazy fog, their 2-1 quarter-final victory in La Bombonera against Riquelme's Boca Juniors, and their crazy title-winning goal against Veron's Estudiantes, at home, in extra time, by Nilmar.
However, in 2009, they lost the Recopa Sudamericana to LDU (Ecuador) (0-1, 0-3), and also the Copa do Brasil final to Ronaldo Nazario's Corinthians (0-2, 2-2), besides finishing 2nd in the national league, behind Adriano's Flamengo.
2010: the Copa Libertadores dream again
Just 4 seasons after their 1st title, Internacional won the prestigious continental title for the 2nd time, only the 12th team in the history of the tournament to do so, and the 5th brazilian club.
Internacional topped their group stage, with 3W-3D, against Deportivo Quito (ECU), Cerro (URU), Emelec (ECU). In the KO stages, they won on the away goal rule until they reached the final.
In the ro16, they faced Banfield, from Argentina. In the 1st leg, away, they lost 1-3, with left-back Kléber scoring this beautiful goal for the Brazilians. At home, they opened the score with Alecsandro at '42 and Walter scored the qualifying goal at '57.
In the quarter-finals, they met the current champions Estudiantes, of the star Verón, from Argentina. In the 1st leg, at home, Inter won 1-0, scoring only at the 88th minute, with a header from Sorondo. They were losing the 2nd leg, away, by 0-2, but Giuliano epically scored the qualifying goal at '88, inside a crazy fog.
In the semi-finals, São Paulo were in their path, and they beat them 1-0 at home in the 1st leg, when Giuliano finally broke Rogério Ceni's goalkeeping at '68. In the 2nd leg, São Paulo opened the score at '30, after a bizarre mistake by Internacional goalkeeper, but Inter equalized at '52 with Alecsandro. São Paulo scored again at '54, but Internacional held the pressure and qualified to the final.
Chivas, from Mexico, were Internacional adversaries in the big final. Playing away in the 1st leg, the Brazilians performed a great 2-1 comeback, with goals at '73, a header from Giuliano, and at '76, with a header from Bolívar. In the 2nd leg, at home, Chivas opened the score at '43, but Rafael Sóbis tied at '61 and Leandro Damião scored one more at '76. With one hand in the trophy, Giuliano scored the third at '90, but Chivas found the time to score one more time, as the match ended with a 3-2 victory in Internacional's favor. For the 2nd time in their history, they were the champions of South America.
Unfortunately, the "Internacional vs. Internazionale (Italy)" hype for the 2010 Club World Cup could not be fulfilled, due to Internacional loss against Mazembe (Congo) in the semis. They finished 3rd, after beating 4-2 Seongnam (South Korea).
In 2011, Internacional claimed their Recopa Sudamericana title, after beating Independiente (Argentina) (1-2, 3-1), thus closing their 2006-2011 international glory era.

2012-today
Internacional rebuilt their Beira-Rio stadium between 2011-2014, turning it into a marvelous arena. They also have reached the 2015 Copa Libertadores semi-finals, but one year later were relegated to the Serie B for the first time in their history. After their promotion in 2016, they reached the 3rd place in the 2018 Brasileirão and the 2nd place in the 2019 Copa do Brasil. Since 2000, Internacional have won 12 state leagues, notably a 6-consecutive title streak (2011-16).
GreNal
One of the fiercest derby rivalries in South America, the GreNal belongs to a place in Brazil that makes you feel like you're in another country, due to their cultural distance from the rest of Brazil. Located in the Southern state of Brazil, the GreNal derby city of Porto Alegre is neighbor to Buenos Aires in Argentina and Montevideo in Uruguay, and share with them the same cold temperatures and the football culture of guts and ferocity, besides the skills and technique. Their rivalry is crazy across the entire state, it's Blue (Grêmio) vs. Red (Internacional) everywhere, and it was elected by FourFourTwo the #8th biggest derby in the world. The GreNal of the century took place in the 1988 Brazilian League semi-finals, with a 2-1 victory of Inter. As of 2020, Internacional leads the derby stats, with 156 wins and 135 defeats.
To this day, Internacional has a fanbase of 6 million supporters, and a stadium attendance average of 24.000, as of 2019.

2020.08.18 01:18 powerrankingsnba Official /r/nba Power Rankings #11 - Gone Fishing (08.17.2020)

22/30 rankers reporting this week. /NBA's Power Rankings are published every two weeks which is a bit different from most rankings. Other than that we rank the teams the same way as our competition. If write ups are left blank the team rep decided not to submit. We encourage any user to fill in the blanks in the comment section. Rankings were completed prior to Today's games. We will be looking for at minimum a ranker for San Antonio and Philly next season, so stay tuned during the off season if you would like to represent one of those teams.
# Team Δ Record Comment
1 Bucks -- 56-17 The Bucks finish the Bubble 3-5, and Khris Middleton missed out on a 20ppg 50/40/90 season by 2 shots, it felt like we averaged 25 TOs a game , and Giannis headbutted Mo Wagner (FYI Wagner is a fan of George Zimmerman) and was subsequently suspened for the last bubble game. Despite all that it was a decent 8-games for the Bucks. In the rarity Giannis was actually on the floor, the team had a NETRTG of +8.5, Brook Lopez appeared to find his 3-pt shot he'd been missing all season, and everyone made it through the 8 games pretty damn healthy.
2 Lakers -- 52-19 The Lakers essentially clinched the #1 seed after beating the Clippers in the first game back from the hiatus. They went on to lose most of the other games though as many players were in and out of the lineup for resting purposes. The Blazers are an offensive machine so this should be an exciting series.
3 Raptors -- 53-19 Solid stretch of games for the raptors to finish out the bubble. Unfortunately the majority of the games involved heavy bench play which can be tough to draw any conclusions from, but a win is a win. Hopefully having our bench play such big minutes as of late can get them better prepared for the postseason as one of our biggest struggles this year has been inconsistency from the bench.
4 Clippers -- 49-23 Clips look really awesome, and with Harrel coming back soon, they'll have probably the best bench in the playoffs. PatBev is still hurt so while we won't be at full power, Playoff Kawhi will be a sight to see. I look forward to seeing this team in action, Hopefully they can get some rest with a swift 4-0 win (though I doubt it)
5 Celtics +1 48-24 "The Celtics finished the bubble strong, and are set to face the 76ers in the 1st round of the playoffs. With Ben Simmons out, not to mention the fact Embiid finished the bubble hobbled, it seems like most people are saying the Celtics should more or less breeze through the 1st round. On paper the Celtics should win, but with Embiid and Philly, who knows. Embiid and Horford could very well feast on Kanter and Theis, leaving Robert ""Timelord"" Williams as the last line of defense to throw out there for 20+ minutes a game. My personal prediction is that the Celtics will drop game 1, but then the rest of the series is a rather dominant preformance by the Celtics.
6 Nuggets +1 46-27 With the help of some, uh, "strategic losing", the Nuggets have landed their ideal first round matchup against the short-handed Jazz. With both Will Barton and Gary Harris missing all eight seeding games, the odds of either of them playing significant minutes in this series are slim. Fortunately, two fantastic bubble performances from Michael Porter Jr. (who has officially secured his spot in the starting lineup) and PJ Dozier should help fill the shoes that Barton and Harris have left. While the most notable matchup in this series is obviously Jokic vs. Gobert, the more important matchup for both teams is Donovan Mitchell vs. Torrey Craig. Craig has made life difficult for Mitchell this season, who only averaged 19 PPG on 30% shooting in 3 games vs Denver this year, and if the Nuggets can maintain that pressure on Mitchell, it will be tough for the Jazz to score consistently in this series.
7 Rockets -2 44-28 As the playoffs start, Rockets fans can only hope for the swift return of Russell Westbrook, but luckily, the Bearded One is still on the team, and when that man is on the team, you can never count us out.
8 Thunder +1 44-28 After Paul George forced his way to Los Angeles and local hero Russell Westbrook soon followed him out of town, it was widely anticipated that the Thunder would begin the dreaded process of tanking (cue infmaous "0.2% to make the playoffs" screenshot). Twelve months, one coronavirus, and 8 seeding games later, it turns out that OKC's "tank job" has more in common with an M1 Abrams than the Process-era Sixers. Though without any actual home court advantage, the Thunder now entire a playoff series against Westbrook's present team. With Westbrook out for at least the first game with an injury, and Harden shooting an average of under 33% from the field against OKC, the Thunder might even be favored.
9 Heat -1 44-29 It's playoff bubble time and I'm excited for our series against the Pacers. They've got some similarities to how we play and it'll be a series that's dependent on who's defense is better. If they're able to put a cap on our main performers then we might be out before the 2nd round. We've lost DJJ to a scary collison and thankfully it's a neck strain and not something more serious. We'll be missing him defensively and offensively since his lob chemistry with Goran is amazing. Personally, I hope this series is reminiscent of the Big 3 era Pacers vs Heat series, because it was my favorite series growing up. The finals against San Antonio were cool but the ECF against Pacers has a Indiana shaped spot in my heart.
11 Pacers +1 45-28 All said and done in the seeing games, Indiana has clinched the fourth seed, and they now turn their sights towards the Miami Heat. The two teams are very different from their 3 playoff series in the early 2010s, but there remains no love lost between the teams and their fanbases. Miami won the season series 3-1, with the lone Pacer victory coming in the final game of the season where neither team played their ideal lineups. Indiana will likely turn to 1st team All-Bubble member T.J. Warren for its offensive attack, but how they adjust when the stingy Heat defense forces other options will likely determine the Pacers' fate in this series.
11 Jazz -1 44-28 With the end of the regular season, Utah is prepared to enter the playoffs matched up against the Denver Nuggets in the first round. Mike Conley recently left the bubble for the birth of his new baby son, with no solid timetable for a playoff return. Bojan is stll out for the foreseeable future, and Ed Davis will be out with an ACL injury for a couple of weeks, so the Jazz will be short a few starters for the series.
12 Mavericks -1 43-32 Dallas' season may most notably go down for what other teams did to them, including Portland with the bounce of the year to push them into the play-in game over Phoenix, as well as the Rockets/Mavs opener thriller and the two Phoenix losses. Dallas was the only team with 2 players on the All-Bubble teams, which highlights how much Doncic and Porzingis carry the Mavs' offense, considering a 10 points per game difference in the whole season scoring vs bubble scoring for Porzingis. The Mavs have a tough first round matchup vs my #1 team, the Clippers, who get Harrell back. The Mavs must get a well-rounded game from the reserves and role players in order to make noise in the playoffs.
13 76ers -- 43-30
14 Trail Blazers +1 35-39 Heroic efforts from Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic dragged the Blazers into the playoffs. If they hope to compete with the Lakers, though, they'll need more success guarding the perimeter and complementary players will need to hit open jumpers when Lillard is double teamed.
15 Suns +4 34-39 Last power rankings I said the Suns were going 8-0 and making the play-in... and I was 1 Caris Levert jumper from that prediction coming true. Suns finished 8-0 in the bubble and with the way they were playing, had they made the play in, they would have won it. If you want some spice - the Suns would have taken AT LEAST two from the Lakers. Some say the bubble Suns were a flash in the pan but was it really? The Suns finished the regular season with a higher net rating than three playoff teams but lost 8 one possession games this year and dropped more than 10 games in which they led by double digits points. A couple bounces here and there and this team could have been easily in with no play-in. The forecast is definitely sunny in PHX
16 Nets +4 35-37 Let's see if Caris can sneak a game away from the stifling Raptors defense. We expect to see a lot of Caris vs OG in this series with all other major ball handlers being.... back up talent at best. The Raptors have played the Nets very well in the past so a 5 game series is really the ultimate goal here.
17 Grizzlies -3 34-39
18 Magic -2 33-40 Isaac tearing his ACL and nagging injuries to Evan, AG and MCW really put a damper on the last few weeks. Guess it's about getting some more playoff experience and looking towards the draft and next season. WeltHam have some questions to answer this offseason, and I don't think bringing in a healthy Chuma and a near-lotto pick will be enough to quell the fanbase.
19 Spurs -2 32-39
20 Pelicans -2 30-42
21 Kings -- 31-41 The Kings did not get the bubble miracle many had hoped for going just 3-5, but things are looking up in Sacramento after the recent resignation of Vlade Divac. An underrated part of this is the increased likelihood that a new GM will want their own coach and the Kings can be freed from Luke Walton. Will it be Sam Hinkie? What if Daryl Morey finds himself looking for a job? Regardless the new GM will have some interesting decisions to make this offseason. Keep an eye on the impending free agency of Harry Giles.
22 Wizards -- 25-47 “You are learning something every day. A [rookie] has brains, but it doesn't know much. Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are [in the bubble] the more experience you are sure to get.” - L Frank Baum, the Wonderful Wizard of [Ish Smith]
23 Hornets -- 23-42
24 Bulls -- 22-43 Jim Boylen was fired, after going 39-84 with our young squad.. Though the firing came 620 days too late, the Bulls once again look toward the future. The 2020-2021 season looks to be the third year straight in which we Bulls fans get optimistic for another 8-seed run. After all, after this draft we'll finally have all the pieces, right? ..... RIGHT?
25 Hawks -- 20-47 Wouldn't it just be the most Hawks thing of all time to win the draft lottery in one of the worst draft lotteries in the last 20 years? Cause that's 100% what's going to happen.
26 Pistons -- 20-46 The Pistons finished the season a tire-fire. They won a single game after trading Andre Drummond and had advanced stats on par with historically awful teams. Christian Wood looked awesome but he's a free agent and his future is uncertain. With a clean cap sheet and a new GM in place everything is on the table for the Pistons future.
27 TWolves +1 19-45 Wolves are once again hoping the ping pong balls bounce their way in the lottery. Despite being a mainstay at this event they have never moved up their position in the lottery.
28 Knicks -- 21-45 Stay Melo
29 Cavaliers -- 19-46 After being cut from the bubble, there was a few members of the team that were upset they didn’t get a chance to get additional reps with the team as the season winded down in Orlando. We also have had a few stories come out in regards to us having high hopes for next season. Our young guys took great steps this season, with Sexton putting up good PPG and ultimately looking like he’s learning how to create opportunities when faced with a NBA-level defense. I’m excited to see what Garland and Jr are able to do next season!
30 Warriors -- 15-50 Klay's on Catalina Island doing bicep curls with Rocco, literally. Most interesting development was packaging Wiggins and the pick for Siakam...which would be a great fit and why wouldn't Toronto want Maple Jordan? IT apparently wants to play for GS and come off the bench, we already have Jordan Poole playing no defense and chucking though.

2020.07.25 15:57 ZandrickEllison [OC] Other "Coach of the Year" ballots may have more legitimacy or accuracy, but this is the only one that ranks the candidates from # 1 all the way to # 30

The NBA league office announced that all awards will be officially based on play PRIOR to the bubble. With that, the cases are locked, the campaigns are closed, and the voting will begin.
Rather than give a traditional "Coach of the Year" ballot that ranks from 1-3, I thought it may be an interesting (and indulgent) exercise to go all the way from 1-30.
Some caveats:
--- We're ranking coaches based on their performance THIS SEASON only. Obviously, Billy Donovan isn't as good of a coach as Gregg Popovich. However, if you were only ranking their "Coach of the Year" candidacy for this particular season, Donovan has a better campaign argument.
--- Since I don't watch every game for every team, I'm going to have to resort to a bigger picture analysis. If you're a diehard fan of your team who watches every game, you'd have a lot better insight into a coach's game management and situational adjustments. Let us know how you feel about that -- is your coach underrated? Overrated?
--- Personally, I'm going to rank coaches that started the year (as opposed to interim replacements.) That’s important to mention off the bat, because it applies right away —
the complete COACH OF THE YEAR Ballot
(30) David Fizdale, N.Y. Knicks: 4-18 record
David Fizdale became a head coach with so much fanfare and media approval that his fall from grace has been more dramatic than Icarus. This year, he got fired 22 games into his second season on the job. Amazingly, this isn't the first time that's happened to him. Back in Memphis, he also got fired 19 games into his second season on the job.
We don't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes, but it can't be good. Do you know how bad things must be going to get fired 20 games into a season? That's like being halfway through sex with someone and saying: ya know, I think I need to leave... Something seriously FUNKY must have going on in there. Raging herpes. Oozing puss. Rotten vagina.
I don't want to call David Fizdale the rotten vagina of coaches, but his tenure with the Knicks did smell pretty funky. The team (right or wrong) signed a bunch of veterans with the intention to strive for the 8th seed, but they flopped. Ultimately, the real goal was giving their young prospects an environment to grow, but that didn't happen either. Dennis Smith and Kevin Knox are somehow getting worse and worse.
The Knicks did a full house cleaning, but it may be some time before the smell is out of the building.
(29) John Beilein, Cleveland: 14-40 record
If you think it's difficult to get fired 20 games into a season, imagine getting fired halfway through your first year on the job right after you've signed a lucrative FIVE-YEAR contract.
With John Beilein, we know more clearly what went wrong. In hindsight, it was a mistake to think that the 67-year-old Beilein could make the transition to the NBA after a lifetime in college. He simply didn't mesh with the "thugs/slugs" in the NBA, causing the Cavs to pull the plug before a full-out mutiny.
Given this disaster, how can we rank Beilein higher than Fizdale? We're splitting hairs, but there are a few more positives. Beilein's Cavs had a better record than Fizdale's Knicks despite lower expectations (based on oveunder.) Beilein also "resigned," meaning the decision to part was at least somewhat mutual. He realized the error of his ways, and handed things over to an experienced assistant in J.B. Bickerstaff. As embarrassing and costly as the Beilein era may have been, it's hard to see much long-term damage for the franchise.
(28) Scottie Brooks, Washington: 24-40 record
With John Wall injured, the Washington Wizards would have a hard time competing for the playoffs. Still, Scottie Brooks didn't help matters. The team ranked dead last in defensive rating by a good margin, indicating some serious issues with the system and the effort level. Even Bradley Beal looked disengaged on that end, ranking as one of the worst defenders in the league.
More than anything, Brooks' crime is a slow adjustment to that problem. Despite their defensive issues, he continued to start league LVP Isaiah Thomas for 37 games. Brooks seems like a likable guy, but his slow trigger has defined and tarnished his coaching career so far.
(27) Jim Boylen, Chicago: 22-43 record
Even his defenders would say Jim Boylen is about as cuddly as a cactus and charming as an eel. His players' support for him ranges behind tepid indifference and downright annoyance. Still, sometimes it takes a Grinch to get young players locked in on defense. To his credit, Boylen did improve the Bulls on that end. Their defensive rating leapt up from 25th to 14th this season.
But at the end of the day, the overall results simply aren't here. Despite offensive-minded youngsters like Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen (marginalized this year), the Bulls ranked 27th in offensive rating. Largely as a result, they were on pace to win 27.7 games, well short of their 33.5 oveunder. Being "likable" and being "successful" don't go hand in hand, but NBA coaches need to check 1 of those 2 boxes to survive. So far, Boylen has gone 0 for 2.
(26) Lloyd Pierce, Atlanta: 20-47 record
The Atlanta Hawks hired Lloyd Pierce on the basis of his defensive reputation, but we've seen little evidence of that on the court so far. In his first year on the job, the Hawks ranked 27th in defensive rating. After a full year of training and development in his system, they climbed all the way up to... 28th. Through it all, franchise player Trae Young looks completely lost, grading as a worse defender than our LVP Isaiah Thomas.
There's not much evidence that Pierce is a BAD coach, but there's not much evidence that he's going to be able to cure what ails them either. He'll probably get another season or two on the job from the patient franchise, but he needs to make some improvements eventually. Young is an albatross on defense, sure, but one little guard shouldn't be enough to sink you like this. (For evidence, consider Boston ranked 4th in defense during lil' Isaiah Thomas' near-MVP season.)
(25) Kenny Atkinson, Brooklyn: 28-34 record
Our third coach who got fired midseason actually ranks higher than others. On the court, it's hard to find much fault in Kenny Atkinson's performance. Despite having two max players on the shelf, he still had his Nets in the playoff race. They weren't any great shakes, but they were competitive.
However, we have to acknowledge that the job of an NBA coach goes beyond offensive and defensive ratings. It's also about managing a locker room, and managing egos. The Nets had built a good culture before this, but that culture presumably got rocked by the arrival of their new stars. It's up to Atkinson to bridge that gap, and instead it swallowed him whole.
(24) Ryan Saunders, Minnesota: 19-45 record
The Minnesota Timberwolves will fall well short of their preseason expectations (35.5 oveunder), and will continue to waste Karl-Anthony Towns' historically good offensive talent. It's still unclear if young pup Ryan Saunders should have been handed this job at such a young age; he hasn't proven that he deserves it yet.
If there's any consolation, it's that Saunders appears in lock step with executive Gersson Rosas in terms of preferred playing style. Rosas came over from Houston with a desire to create more of a Morey-Ball approach. Saunders is doing his part, cranking up the gas to keep the team 3rd in pace, 3rd in three-point attempts, 3rd in free-throw attempts. The results don't match up yet, but at least they're on the same page. For now. Time will tell whether a new ownership group will come in and rip up that playbook.
(23) Gregg Popovich, San Antonio: 27-36 record
I imagine this low ranking will be among the least popular picks on the board. After all, Gregg Popovich is a legend. Even at this age, he's still a top 10 coach overall.
That said, legends aren't bullet proof or immune from criticism. Popovich needs to take some blame for an underwhelming year in San Antonio. The unconventional mid-range offense actually works better than you'd expect (11th in rating), but the problems come on the other end. The Spurs have struggled mightily on D this year, ranking all the way down at 25th. The rotations have been an issue there, with too much Bryn Forbes and Marco Bellinelli and probably too little Jakob Poeltl.
It still may feel weird to rank Pop in the bottom half for his performance this year, but I'd ask you: if this team was coached by a random dude named "Joe Schmo," where would you put him?
(22) Brett Brown, Philadelphia: 39-26 record
This hasn't been a banner year for Gregg Popovich, and it hasn't been a banner year for his protege Brett Brown either. The Sixers made some head-scratching decisions this offseason. They grabbed the biggest pieces they could find, and jammed them together without much regard for "fit." Still, there's a lot of talent here. There's enough talent to justify their 54.5 preseason oveunder, and there's enough talent to compete with everyone in the East (outside of Milwaukee, perhaps.)
Instead, the Sixers stumbled along on a 49-win pace, on track for the 6th seed. If this was a normal year without the COVID-bubble, then that would be a much bigger problem. The team is starting to make some adjustments and add more shooters like Shake Milton into the lineup, but it may be too little, too late.
(21) Dwane Casey, Detroit: 20-46 record
It's hard to judge veteran Dwane Casey either way based on the returns this season so far. The Pistons will fall well short of preseason expectations (37.5 oveunder), but there are obvious reasons why. Star Blake Griffin got injured again, and pseudo-star Andre Drummond got traded away.
To Dwane Casey's credit, he's tried to make a meal with the leftovers in the cupboard. Derrick Rose continues to be a fan favorite (if not an analytical darling), and PF Christian Wood appears to be a breakout success. Overall, there's no real identity or grand plan in place here, but perhaps that will change if the lottery balls go their way.
(20) Terry Stotts, Portland: 29-37 record
Terry Stotts and Dwane Casey may have a few beers after the season and commiserate together about their challenges this year. Like Casey, Stotts has been overwhelmed by injuries -- to Jusuf Nurkic -- to Zach Collins -- to Rodney Hood -- to Trevor Ariza -- etc. All this from a team that didn't have much depth to start.
Stotts and the Blazers drew a stroke of good luck with this bubble format. They'll be in the 9th spot right now, and well within range to sneak into the playoffs. If it wasn't for that, Stotts may be drawing more fire. The team's defense has slipped to 27th overall, which is hard to excuse no matter what roster problems you have. Stotts is a good and respected coach in general, but there's a chance his message may have run stale here. If they bomb out in the bubble, I wouldn't be surprised if they look for a fresh voice like assistant Nate Tibbetts for next year.
(19) Luke Walton, Sacramento: 28-36 record
Luke Walton and the Kings got off to a disastrous start given their expectations. It's never a good sign when your fanbase grumbles, he's no Dave Joerger.
But after weathering the storm, there are some signs of hope on the horizon. A bold decision to bring Buddy Hield off the bench has worked out, with the team rattling off a 13-7 stretch before the shutdown. They had a slim chance to rally and make the playoffs if we played a full schedule, and they'll have some chance to do the same in the bubble. Overall, a disappointing start for Walton, but not a complete disaster.
(18) James Borrego, Charlotte: 23-42 record
It's very difficult to judge James Borrego, because it's difficult to judge exactly what was going on in the twisted minds of the Charlotte front office. On paper, Borrego did an admirable job to take a bad roster and lead them to a decent mark of 23 wins. In fact, their oveunder coming into this year was only 23.5 over a full 82 games (lowest in the NBA). P.J. Washington's had a nice rookie year, and PG Devonte' Graham has been better than expected (although he's cooled off.)
At the same time, is this what the Hornets wanted? A "not THAT bad" team? As a result, they'll end up in the 8th slot prior to the NBA Draft lottery, in that dreaded middle ground. In a sense, Borrego did too good of a job squeezing out a few extra wins. I'm inclined to give him props for that because the franchise must have given him a mandate to compete (why else sign Terry Rozier to a big contract?). As a franchise, the team gets poor grades, but as a coach, it's hard to fault him here.
(17) Alvin Gentry, New Orleans: 28-36 record
James Borrego hasn't had much talent to work with in Charlotte. Down in Nawlins, Alvin Gentry may have too much. Earlier in the season, he appeared overwhelmed by all the pieces on the roster and struggled to develop a consistent rotation for the team. If it wasn't for Brandon Ingram's breakout, the Pelicans could have been in too deep of a whole to dig their way out.
Of course, some stocky rookie waddled in, and looked pretty darn good. Zion Williamson gives this team an entirely new ceiling, and has been worked into the lineup in a smart, prudent fashion. For that, Gentry deserves credit. He also deserves credit for having a consistent philosophy. His team is going to run, run, run like Forrest Gump. They've finished in the top 3 in pace each season for the past three years. It hasn't worked like a charm overall, as Gentry will be on track to finish with a losing record for the 4th time in his 5 years, but perhaps they'll finally hit their stride in the bubble.
(16) Steve Clifford, Orlando: 30-35 record
By this point, what you see is what you get with coach Steve Clifford. We've come to expect a top 10 defense (# 9 this year), but a record around the .500 mark. In his defense, the offensive talent is limited, and Jon Isaac (arguably their best overall player) missed significant time. Still, for Clifford to jump in these yearly rankings, we need to see more of an offensive system in place.
(15) Steve Kerr, Golden State: 15-50 record
WTF? Why is the coach with the worst record in the league doing all the way up here?
Allow me to explain. Being a head coach is like being a jockey. You need to know when to trot, when to stay with the pack, and when to crack the whip and turn up the gas down the stretch. And, sadly, you need to know when your horse is lame and needs to be shot and put out of its misery.
Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors realized they had a wobbly, broken-down horse early on, and put the breaks on sooner than later. As a result, they'll be locked into the # 1 spot among their NBA lottery odds. In theory that doesn't matter much because the top three teams (GS, CLE, MIN) all have the same odds at # 1 overall. However, if they slide down, Golden State will remain ahead of the others; the worst pick they can get is # 5. That type of patience is rare and admirable for a veteran coach like Kerr; after years of being in "win now" mode, he's showing a long-term vision as well.
(14) Nate McMillan, Indiana: 39-26 record
The Indiana Pacers continued to chug along with another playoff appearance despite Victor Oladipo missing more time. Coach Nate McMillan (and assistant Dan Burke) deserve a lot of credit for their strength defensively; they finished in the top 10 in defense for the second season in a row. Their scheme works well, and covers for some limited players along the way.
If there's any criticism of McMillan, it'd be on the offensive end. The Pacers found a little something with Domatas Sabonis as a playmaker (5.0 assists per game), but it's still not enough to make the team formidable offensively. Their "MoreyBall" rating is the worst in the league -- they finished last in both free-throw attempts and three-point attempts. Some teams can overcome that playing style, but the Pacers haven't been one of them; their offensive rating is # 18 for the second straight year. Given that need, I'd be curious to see if the team could develop Doug McDermott into a Bojan Bogdanovic - type player for them -- he hit 44.5% of his threes, but got only 20.0 minutes a game.
(13) Monty Williams, Phoenix: 26-39 record
This ranking may seem too high for the coach of a 26-39 team, but we need to consider some context here. The Phoenix Suns had finished with an average record of 20-62 over the last two seasons, so this 33-win pace is a marked step up for them. They've also gotten into the top 20 in offensive and defensive rating. That may sound like mediocrity to you, but again it's a big jump up from the previous year (28th offensive, 29th defense.)
Better still, we're seeing some strong player development from this club. Deandre Ayton still looked strong post PED suspension, and Mikal Bridges played well in the second half of the year. After all the mess and goat stink in Phoenix, there are actual good vibes here, and Monty Williams deserves credit for that.
(12) Quin Snyder, Utah: 41-23 record
Quin Snyder is an awesome coach, only penalized here by his own lofty expectations. Coming into the season, a few pundits though the Jazz may have what it took to be the top seed in the West, but they're going to fall short of that and even fall short of their preseason oveunder (of 53.5 wins). Of course, it didn't help that Mike Conley forgot how to shoot for the few month or two of the season. Still, Snyder's bunch continues to be well coached on both ends, with ball movement on offense and discipline on defense. They'd have been an interesting playoff darkhorse if not for the bad corona-vibes and the unfortunate Bojan Bogdanovic injury.
(11) Mike Malone, Denver: 43-22 record
Denver's Mike Malone is in the same boat as Quin Snyder; he did a good job, but he's expected to do a good job. I'm going to rank him slightly higher because the Nuggets were slightly ahead, and were also set to slightly exceed their preseason win total (on track to win 54, 1 game better than their 53.0 estimate.)
Going forward, it'll be interesting to see if Malone can take his offense up a notch. They play at a very slow pace (29th) and don't shoot many threes (26th). To actually win the title, their shooters will need to step it up. If Gary Harris won't break out of his prolonged slump, then it's imperative that Michael Porter Jr. fulfills his potential and provides that third scoring punch.
(10) Doc Rivers, L.A. Clippers: 44-20 record
Stars and shooting aren't a problem for the Los Angeles Clippers. It's fair to say they're the most talented roster in the entire NBA. Given that, is their 44-20 record a disappointment? Eh. Maybe. But I'd counter that it doesn't really matter. Doc Rivers' primary mission this regular season was to make it to the playoffs healthy, and the team appears on track to do just that.
If there's any criticism here (of a team with a top 5 offense and defense) it's that their best players may not have gotten enough reps together. Do the new kids on the block Kawhi Leonard and Paul George fit with the old guard in Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell? What's the best starting lineup? Best closing lineup? There are still some unanswered questions here that need to be addressed in a hurry if they're going to fulfill their title aspirations in the bubble.
(9) Taylor Jenkins, Memphis: 32-33 record
Personally, I expected the Memphis Grizzlies to have the worst in the Western Conference, so it's downright shocking that they're in the 8th spot at the moment. The NBA may be trying to steal that playoff berth away from them, but that won't change the great job that rookie coach Taylor Jenkins has done this year.
Are the Grizzlies actually this good? Probably not. Their advanced stats are worse than their record, and Jaren Jackson Jr. hasn't taken the expected leap on defense yet. Still, wins are wins, and a coach shouldn't be penalized for collecting more than he should.
(8) Mike D'Antoni, Houston: 40-24 record
Based on the simple matter of wins versus preseason expectations (and an oveunder of 54.0), the Houston Rockets have been slightly underwhelming this year. Still, veteran Mike D'Antoni deserves a lot of credit for remaking the team on the fly. Changing from Chris Paul to Russell Westbrook may not be a huge difference in quality, but it's a huge difference in playing style. As a result, the Rockets leapt up from the 26th fastest pace last year all the way up to 4th this season. They'll looking like a proper D'Antoni and Morey team right now.
In fact, they've taken that bold experiment up another notch this year by ditching Clint Capela and emulating Rick Moranis. So far, so good. These Smallball Rockets still have some lingering question marks about their defense and their rebounding, but they're extremely dangerous right now nonetheless. It's hard to imagine too many older coaches understanding and embracing this like D'Antoni has.
(7) Brad Stevens, Boston: 43-21 record
Brad Stevens has always been a media darling, and he's justifying that reputation this year. The Celtics lost Kyrie Irving and Al Horford, but are still top 5 in offense and top 5 in defense. Life without Kyrie has gone swimmingly, opening up some air for young stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to breathe; they're both in the running for Most Improved Player.
As with Mike D'Antoni, Stevens also deserves credit for working with a limited hand at center. But rather than force the issue and overplay some stiffs, he's understood that the team just may be better off with 6'8" Daniel Theis manning the fort instead.
(6) Frank Vogel, L.A. Lakers: 49-14 record
It's never a good sign when you sign a new contract with a team, and are immediately placed among the favorites for "First Coach Fired" in Vegas. Frank Vogel walked that tightrope this season, with plenty of spectators expecting him to fail and fall to his demise.
Instead, Vogel has kept his head down, and kept his focus, and helped this Lakers team grab the # 1 seed out West. Obviously it's an easier task when you have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but this isn't a loaded roster otherwise. Moreover, there are a lot of moving parts and new pieces to work in. The fact that Vogel has this largely-old team ranked # 3 in defensive rating is a true testament to his success this year.
(5) Mike Budenholzer, Milwaukee: 53-12 record
Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo is on track to win his second consecutive MVP award. While we tend to think the media likes new "narratives," but we've seen repeat winners before. Since 2000, Tim Duncan repeated as MVP, Steve Nash repeated as MVP, LeBron James repeated as MVP (on two separate occasions), and Steph Curry repeated as MVP as well.
Coaches don't get the same luxury. In fact, since the award was created in 1962, the Coach of the Year winner has NEVER repeated the following season. You win once, you get to the back of the line. That tendency has really hurt Mike Budenholzer's candidacy this year. On paper, he should absolutely be in the running. The Bucks are once again # 1 in defense, # 1 in overall rating, # 1 in W-L record. They're on a better pace than last year's team, despite losing Malcolm Brogdon over the summer. If Giannis can repeat for the same feat twice, why shouldn't Budenholzer be allowed to do the same?
(4) Rick Carlisle, Dallas: 40-27 record
Everyone expected the Milwaukee Bucks to be dominant, but no one expected the Dallas Mavericks to be this good, this early. They've jumped the line and arrived in the playoffs earlier than schedule. They're only 1 win away from beating their preseason oveunder of 40.5 despite all the missed games.
Like Mike Budenholzer, Rick Carlisle has benefited in that endeavor from a transcendent player in Luka Doncic. At the same time, this Mavs' machine has been rolling with and without Doncic. They rank # 1 in offensive efficiency this year, and depending on whether you want to factor in pace and league trends or not, they may have one of the best offenses we've ever seen from a statistical standpoint. It's quite an achievement from a coach who cut his stripes as a defensive specialist, and indicates the type of attitude that coaches need to adapt and evolve over time.
(3) Erik Spoelstra, Miami: 41-24 record
The Miami Heat pulled a free agency coup by signing Jimmy Butler away from Philadelphia. Still, it's not like people expected that to vault them to the top of the East. Butler was a good player, but a difficult one to manage. He blended into the crowd as well as a skinhead at a Bar Mitzvah. Overall, adding Butler only boosted the team's preseason oveunder win total to a modest 43.5.
Turns out, Butler fit in better with the Heat than anyone expected, on and off the court. Butler hasn't shot well from the field, but his attacking and playmaking helped open up the offense (6th in the league) and propelled the team to a 51.7-win pace. He's fit in like a glove in terms of their tough-dude culture as well.
Erik Spoelstra should get huge props for developing that culture and that system. But more than anything, he deserves credit for their player development system. Sure, Jimmy Butler is a star, and Bam Adebayo had star talent. At the same time, no one had ever heard of players like Kendrick Nunn and Duncan Robinson at this time last year. These are complete randos who will make a combined $3M this season -- just half of Cristiano Felicio's salary. Having a coach who can grow talent like that in his backyard is a huge advantage for any franchise.
(2) Billy Donovan, Oklahoma City: 41-24 record
After Oklahoma City blew it up this summer by trading Russell Westbrook and Paul George, coach Billy Donovan felt like a dead man walking. Instead, Donovan and those fireproof zombie hordes in OKC sieged to a 41-24 record. How good is that? Hell, it's an even better winning percentage than the team had last year with Westbrook and George (in a career year.)
Given all this surprising success, Donovan would be a fair winner of this award. He's managed to take in a bunch of new bodies and form a cohesive team. He's even had success playing three point guards together (CP3, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Dennis Schroder.)
If you want to nitpick his candidacy, you could point out that the hodgepodge roster has a lot of talent scattered throughout. Chris Paul had become underrated, and Danilo Gallinari has always been underrated as well. The team's low preseason oveunder total (32.5) was largely based on the uncertainty about further trades. Everyone knew that this team had the talent to be competitive if they stayed together. Still, no one expected them to be this good.
(1) Nick Nurse, Toronto: 46-18 record
Last season, Nick Nurse finally got his first chance as an NBA head coach. He ended up having as good of a rookie year as anyone since Henry Rowengartner. Nurse coached circles around some of the best in the business en route to a championship season.
Amazingly, he may have been even more impressive this year. Without Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, the Toronto Raptors held steady and didn't miss much of a beat. In fact, they're on pace to win 58.9 games, over a dozen more than their preseason oveunder of 46.5.
Technically, Nurse still has limited experience as an NBA head coach, but he's already proven to be one of the masters. If we were to judge based on the results of this (semi-)season only, he'd be my personal "Coach of the Year."

2020.07.07 23:14 Anon-C3 This is a long rant, but this is a heavy release -- I just want to be felt...

I'm typing this on my flight to Los Angeles (I've got two masks on btw). I didn't plan to take this flight either. It was off the whim, and Los Angeles is where my Pops lives. The only person in the world who gets me.
Now, three weeks ago I went through a terrible break-up. My ex and I had almost been together for two years, and indeed those two years were toxic and sometimes chaotic. We indulged in the same bad habits together, habits I'd broken long ago in hopes that he would follow. He told me verbatim that he "would never". So, you can only imagine how the break-up went. I won't go into detail, because he's actually trying to seek legal consequences on me as I type this. But simply put, he cheated on me twice with the same girl. The same girl who he three-way'd, after the first time I'd caught him, to let her know (with me on the line, muted) they had to cut ties for the sake of his relationship with me. Which were building, at the time. Two weeks later -- which is the three weeks ago, from today that I mentioned -- there she was at his house. Again. (I think he was housing the young lady because he'd told me she was homeless which was neither here nor there. He told me they were doing dr*gs together the first time. That was enough to get the picture of what was going on behind my back on Sunday nights when he'd leave my house after wonderful weekends)
I felt played, I raged. I was sick to my stomach. His response, "I'm just a lost, fucked up human being".
The plot here is: I retaliated in a nasty way via social media. I wanted to hit him where I knew it'd hurt. And I did.
*Fast forward to present time*
Coming out of a crazy, "but it felt great in the moment", relationship with someone who carefully and religiously exposed who they really have been all along -- I didn't trust myself to be alone. I'm always honest about my emotional state, and I was really honest there. I decided to stay at my mother's house. My mother and I's relationship at the time, was in its 37784857th rebuilding state. Simply put, her and I just do not mesh. I spoke to my therapist my second day staying at my mother's house, and she asked me -- "Why are you there? Why are you putting yourself in thus another toxic situation?". I cried. I felt hopeless to my own expectations. I felt disappointed that, once again, I chose to sacrifice myself chasing expectations. Constantly expecting that one day.... I would have the mother I need. When indeed, she just isn't. Indeed, she hadn't been.
So this morning, I had an emotional episode:
Apparently my mother had talked to my ex two days ago to "calm him down so he wouldn't press charges". In that conversation, that I did not have knowledge of until today, my ex pretty much threw me under the bus. Made me look like a complete junkie to my mother, whom I did not trust. Who, also, does not trust that I have been clean for months on end now. Their secret conversation happened two days ago. I'll explain how I found this out later. I got my unemployment check this morning, and I wanted to get marijuana. I told her that I'd wanted to. Sidenote: I lost my job in Aviation-IT three days before my ex cheated on me, btw. Anyways, on the way back to my mom's house -- she texts me "Hey - are you coming back?" I immediately began to dread/regret the space I'd subjected myself to. I've been here for almost two weeks now and haven't done anything that is fulfilling to me. My mother, who I do not trust, has been breathing down my neck. I have been self sufficient for 4 years now, staying with her just feels so odd. I'd quit alcohol three weeks ago, why have I been drinking again with her at her house? I'm currently on Wellbutrin to quit cigarettes, why have I smoked countless cigarettes with her? These are the thoughts running through my head as I pull into her driveway. My therapist was right.
Soon as I walk in, she asks me what is wrong. I tell her, "I cannot wait to move on my own again". She begins to interrogate that statement alone. I give no reply. She begins to follow me around her ever-so suffocating house, asking what I meant. I don't remember what I said, but I definitely snapped. FINALLY, I was truly believing the feelings I'd been feeling. The feelings that I felt driving back to her house. She looks at me and asks me..... LITERALLY ASKS ME...... "What did you take?"
Guys --- I ---- I, just ---- man ---- if I could explain the fury that grew quickly after she asked that.
It didn't make sense to me until I called my Pops immediately after she asked me that. He told me the honest truth of the conversation my ex had with my mother. He said verbatim "He tried to throw you under the f*cking bus in retaliation (to my nasty revenge post on social media)". Even THAT was neither here nor there. Anyone would expect that. But, for my mother to subconsciously verbalize her false belief of who I am, ESPECIALLY considering the growth and fight to break that terrible habit my ex and I partook -- was a slap in my face. A slap in the face of my entire being. The being I'd been fighting to return to. There was my mom, convicting me of whatever my dumb ass , lost ass ex told her. My ex texted me a week ago proclaiming he would make sure I felt the way my revenge post made him feel. I didn't think it would reveal to me, once again for the 37784857th time, that my mother truly does not look after me. That any day, the woman I constantly expect would SHOW UP for me and ENJOY the real me, would turn on me.
My Pops, who was still on the phone through the entire argument, told me "Shut up! Leave there now! Get on the next flight shooting to LA".
Here I am......

2020.06.27 07:47 bef017 Sam Harris is wrong about police brutality. [Effort Post]

Sorry this is based on a leftist compilation. Dont know if he misrepresented Sam's views on his arguments. I didn't really care to find the video cause the arguments he presented I hear are common and I didn't want to find the video to find out it was mostly non-problematic and the guy wanted to focus on areas he is contentious on.
https://youtu.be/DM9KYnCUoBc
The big problem Sam Harris seems to have with his perspective on the relationship between the black community is they are mad at the police soley through the lens of black victims being mad individual cops killing innocent black people rather than the community examining this issue through the lens of that they are mad at of a pattern of excessive force and imposing high human costs on the black community and are mad at the justice system being designed the way it functions at a systemic level. I will primarily be using a systematic view of racism rather than focusing on how it plays out in an individual.
He is caring far to much about the individual racism of cops rather than institutional racism that black people and activists are complaining about and not looking at the institutions as a set of relationships and powers that result in unjustified policys on a systemic level and instead focuses on an individual level where there is more ambiguity. This is fair if say the prinicple concern is not putting cops in jail for acting reasonable in the context of the current system. See I agree that individual cops probably should not receive harsh reprimands for reasonable actions they take in the context of a poorly and badly designed criminal justice system and far to many leftists are overconcerned with punishing cops which is sad because ideas like obsession with punishing people have made the flaws of the justice system possible.
This view however is not useful for gauging systemic problems understanding systemic problems or providing systemic solution. After all the root of the BLM movement is about institutions and how they are designed. Good principles for individuals need turned on their head when applying them to systems of power control and governance.
For innocent until proven guilty is great for individuals but bad for systems and are why justice systems should apply the logic the accused dont have to do much justify claims in court but the state funded and backed prosecution does have justify itself. Because good system design can and should justify itself because it simply doesnt do so by definition.
Ill still address some weird shit he says that are weird to justify on even a more sympathetic to power level.
2:30 it doesnt matter if the use of force wasnt rational at a systematic level. Patternistic levels of high amount use of force impose costs on communities that make doing so as a norm unjustifiable. This is why there is focus on extrajudical killings of unarmed and there for easier to make submit or deescalte and arrest without murdering. It doesnt matter if the suspect is a career criminal. The police can't simply know if a career criminal is being extorted for example let alone know if the person can recover from criminal behavior. This is why they are supposed to go trial under innocent till proven. The cops just killing them in the context of systemic convience is a perfect example of excessive force
3:00 motive of individual cops doesn't matter on a systemic level when 1000 people are killed a year. (Which is at a rate that is like 4x that of say Canada) If these costs are being imposed on communities that can't afford the loss of life of individuals. Cops being prosecuted for murder in obvious cases doesn't provide a systemic solution to the fact 1000 people are dead. If they were just individual racist cops fault that would just make the systemic racism reduced to just the cops rather than bad institutional design policy which black people and other oppressed groups have to bear the weight of.
3:30 Yes the fact that cops would use the amount of force neccessary to kill someone so often is the problem. It is almost self aware. Its almost like he isnt even wrong.
He acts like extrajudicial killings are justified by definition if they couldn't be avoided on an individual level rather than the standard you should hold the state to, at a systemic level. The way the police operate is set of institutions and policies we chose that have alternatives. Once again other countries than the US have substantially less kill rates by the police.
I shouldnt have to justify this but sadly he doesnt seem to do the research.
25% of shooting deaths are mentally ill.
Another chunk are preventable accidents. Whether it be a jumpy cop or the result of say dispatch deploying the cop in a situation where they tell the cop to use swat tactics but dispatch tells them the wrong location. There is of course reactionary and instinctive resisting arrests that highlight why the police shouldnt just shoot criminals.
But that doesn't include all the individuals you should hold sympathy and down play the role of personal responsibility for even if they being violent due to basic mishandling of escalations of force and highlight why activists do not care if the shooter in the video is an angel. And its because if he had to in the context of the current system its because we chose to run the system this way.
Example Baltimore.
https://youtu.be/GWwiUIVpmNY
Id reccommend 6:00 minutes in or the reader isnt particularly careing about criminogenics (sociological variables that are responsible for driving people to commit crimes)
Jerry Brown was a career criminal.....
Because he was mentally ill and his protections to help him deal with his medical problems were manipulated from him. The fact he was a career criminal is irrelevant as A) there were clear actions that could've been taken that would've made him not a criminal that dont involve utilizing undertrained warrior larping armed dipshits that patrol the neigherhood causing an array of problems for the community like using excessive inefficent searches that foster mental issues due to this being unneccessary harrassment most the time and excessively violent when it is neccessary to rely on the police.
B) The development of his mental illness in the first place was linked Baltimore Redlining policies and the further development of his criminal history was caused by a lack of protections. Predatory financial basically stole most of his settlement on the redlining case
C) stating it was okay for questionable cases ignores that at a systemic level those were preventable at systemic operating levels
D) If we as a society couldve prevented the crime or made the person not the person shouldn't have died and been treated as an unworthy victim. If we couldn't it is even less likely the criminal could've and so they shouldnt be treated as an acceptable sacrifice. I know he doesn't believe in libertarian free will.
E) Easy case rhetoric is used to defend questionable cases.(preventable)
F) solutions to common problems of racial tensions have been around since before rioting during the civil rights act. These solutions have been ignored in favor of the system as it is now with high human costs.
G) Questionable cas rhetoric are used to defend Hard cases. (Likely preventable)
4:00 the focus to much on skin color especially on the offender can obfuscate looking at the system from multiple possible racist designs because you have to make assumptions. Ones I will challenge as the become more relevant.
6:30 i like that sam harris has started viewing poverty and wealth as things that will effect crime. Despite the fact it is typically indicated poverty and inequality indicators like wealth inequality are more important. As pointed out by Peterson. However Peterson at least used to be reductive. A video highlighting the importance of poverty on the mind and development for those interested. And it also highlights with reinforcement of segregation and other policies simply being in poverty will reinforce crime following basic social sciences in seperate but equal which high lights segregating people is inherently unequal.
https://youtu.be/ydKcaIE6O1k
8:20 Just a reminder that when our republican nominee Kanye called bush out for not caring about black people he was calling him racist because racism is about prejudical aversion not fear or hatred or even ignorance though they all play a part. This makes it far easier to see racism in systemic design than sam seems to give credit for and why people can see racism everywhere in the justice system and they don't feel the need to prove it cause they jist have to prove the design reflects prejudical aversion on some way.
I dont know the guys he is quoting but considering blm is a movement with contradictory aims in some manner but ill assume they have different views than the leftists I listen to and are like dumb liberals on this issue.
8:30 actually a dispassionate discussion about facts in the abstract can obscure our view on policies in the real world. A far better dispassionate disscussion would be about concrete policies in the context of their real world effects and real world systems and alternatives.
9:00 the cult of wokeness isn't a thing. There are always dumbasses that say dumb shit and fuck up debate and discussion. Talk about specific organizations rather than a what you call movement that isnt even a structured organization and don't bother calling it a cult because it is a disorganized arbitrary grouping. Like SJW.
10:15 it doesnt we have to look at it and see if it is indictative of a pattern institutional behaviors and question if granted the pattern exists, is it racist.
REDUCTIVE VIEW OF RACIST SYSTEMS
10:30 and we see a reductive view of racist systems. It actually doesnt matter about alot if Floyd was attacked by cop. Oppressive systems aren't usually primarily held up by arbitrarily prejudical large scale structural violence. If they were they would collapse because they would be unsustainable. Real world systems of oppression are held together by apathy to human cost() institutional pressures to self censor(both from minorities and the police and there supporters like court officials), self regulation(both from minorities and the copa), isolation from the majority(like school segregation is like worse than ever, redlining practices are still continuing despite the fact it is illegal, and segregation is getting), a climate of myths and misinformation such as through propaganda to pacify the majority making apathetic to the real world costs and if possible openly hostile to the minority(such as the ones ill be dispelling here), binding of acceptable opinions on norms of system design to be biased toward racist beliefs and attitudes (See dumb ass leftists dont get the point of cognative unconscious biases. As ben shapiro points out they have limited usefulness in predicting specific behaviors unless the study is on or is supplemented by some like controlling for specific actions like it is on what role does skin color play in specific actions, like jury convictions which well get to. The point of the bias studies show the fact people are biased helping us understand this requirement). You actually would see far more than white cops shooting black people in an actual racist system let alone a caste and weirdly enough if you were to focus on like the obvious structural stuff like police gunning down minorities you would see an alarming amount of minorities assisting in structural violence. There is an array of reasons why this is that Ill get into but one of the real world reasons for this is because in the context of racist systems minorities begin to adopt defensive policies against the majority while also seeking help especially from other minorities under the assumption of a shared interest, as well using minorites makes it easier to enact policies with an apathetic majority population and using primarily majority populations requires a hostile rather than apathetic majority to rely on majority enacted structural violence. Ill get more into my claims later.
This actually makes proving racist system let alone say a caste means highlighting an array of racist patterns if social interactions and social infrastructure that maintain it and highlighting how it functions in a prejudically averse manner. This means that for the person claiming systemic racism they are to prove alot of claims and should be focused on how culture or its institutions reinforces or encourages racist behaviors attitudes etc. They shouldn't be concerned with blaming individuals let alone punishing anyone because when we are talking about how social systems are designed there is no single person or entity responsible for it. There may be malicious or openly apathetic to the populations people's suffering (See Joe Biden saying he doesn't care if his crime bill doesn't care about the human costs and also does not address the root causes of crime because criminologists agree that criminals need to be seperated and held in detention facilities and murderers are bad people. It matters if they can be recovered Joe. Not if they are bad people. The communties they victimize will have them as citizens later. This means communities with higher crime will have to deal with the social costs of being victims of a crime but also have to bear the costs of richer communities deciding not to take criminogenic solutions and not trying to lower recidivism and their policies that mishandle crime. Our detention facilities, prisons, are still rape dungeons, Joe. They also were like education in prison would be good, Joe. The guys who say prisons are neccessary didnt say make them worse) but minorities tend to bear the weight of human cost of policies also because of factors like the majority policy makers (that make up most lawmakers) don't live in their communities and cant reasonably be expected to fully gauge how it will affect them especially with community segregation and the fact empathy gets them so far as well as poorer minority communities having less money to voice concerns let alone organize against them when they are complex and people's tendency to start from an assumption of innocence on system design and dismiss concerns instead of them just getting contextualizing and voicing concerns.
10:40 the epidemic/problem of police violence is proven by facts the US has higher rate of police violence rates stats then comparable criminal justice systems which highlights this isnt some inevitable result. People use cases like George Floyd because statistics can show what is happening while examples and movements to highlight demands show things like the how and why and to what behind movements of Social Change use them as well as statistics
https://www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/06/05/policekillings/
Also motives in systemic racism include prejudicial aversion and how it relates to ignorance
11:30 Why does it matter that the police hurt white people more in absolute numbers and in relation to absolute numbers or crime and violence? Why would you assume a racist system would have them primarily linked in any reasonable metric other than race or factors that confound with race as a heuristic do to how the institutions are designed. Heck the metric you arbitrarily chose doesn't correlate properly to say the police are acting properly. Instead he relied on a balancer explanation(i'll explain this later) rather than focused on the question at what point does this make sense for a country to have massively high cops kill civilian rate and is it really fair to expect it to be unacceptable for them sit on a mans neck for 8:46 after subduing a man where the cop had back for very arbitrary reasons especially at a system level. For example you'd assume that a racist system would in order to justify the excessive violence of police brutality would focus heuristics that correlate to race income and community location and wealth or even crimes and I simply can't grant crime as a fair heuristic even though the communities that are victims of crimes have to bear the mishandling of criminals (such as police brutality) thus giving them every reason to defend and want to prevent cops from inducing high human costs even the obvious cases, highlighting the arbitrariness of allowing officers to kill as a norm when there are alternatives. See another reason they dont care if the officer was an angel. It is arbitrary and excessive because the police use excessive force excessively and arbitrarily if you examine it at a systemic level. In such a manner that creates a disproportionate human cost to black communities. That is why people say it is racist. They don't care how you are executing justice in your head. And the assumptions Sam makes about how the police should operate are just your perspective. Not a cold hard fact.
His claim that Police are less likely to kill a black person than a white person factoring crime ignores that pretty much all the violence is arbitrary or preventable and that the entire system of justifying police violence unjustified when you factor in system design making trying to control for intentions a pointless and counterproductive matter cause that is biased from the assumers discussion on what even is an acceptable loss to the police. And considering the black community takes the violence of both the criminal and the police when they say any criminal is an unnacceptable loss I don't actually care about your opinion when you simply dismiss them as being irrationol. on the police Sam is the one being irrational. Criminals are supposed to go to trial and be reformed. Wanting them to not die isnt agaisnt their interests at all. It also is ignoring the victim's wishes and justifying arbitrary violations of the concept of the rule of law.
Also that violence and observation of Sam also ignores that there are socioeconomic factors that are related to racism that would make Black Criminals and citizens more likely to survive a high tension and police faulted scenarios and police misconduct given the relative same arbitrariness of cops decisions. This follows similar lines of logic the same reason Asian Americans perform better than White Americans in socioeconomic indicators because of racism. It can manifest itself in many different ways. Due to selection pressures in the imigration process making it so Asians have to prove themselves better than the Average white America socioeconomically. As for why black americans would be more likely to survive a cop breaking escalation rules and fucking up. Yeah paranoid black people may over react but black people are taught to not trust the police and assume they may stopped arbitrarily which on its own would psychologically prep them for cop misconduct due to how normalized it is in their communities. WEB Du bois points out that Black people have people have to examine themselves from the perspective of white people (we are getting into self censorship) Especially lower levels of cop misconduct. A white person won't assume a cop is just being a racist dipshit. (See all the arbitrary searches of black people that cant even turn up weapons or drugs.) when they get harrassed arbitrarily. They also due to less exposure to the arbitrariness of the police will not be familiar with the police and understand deescalation themselves despite the fact they shouldn't have to do this. Not only that the makeup of the criminal populations are entirely different do to the fact not only does the amount of crime is often affected by socioeconomic factors, so is the type of crime and crime culture. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-2016/topic-pages/tables/table-21
An FYI a common misunderstanding of FBI statistics is that it measures crime directly such as by using estimates based off criminology. It measures convictions. This makes its more useful for this conversation however as we need to know what the police are actually encountering.
An important thing to note is that the police don't normally focus on property crime. (See nothing is done about wage theft)
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/bvvc.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwixocuv26DqAhUDHc0KHQ-YDRIQFjAAegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw2JseJ0UoCxg--A2usCRfkP
This also goes more into specific crimes.
Intimate Partner violence takes up a larger percent of homicides for whites(6% to 12%). Why is this important. 39% of suicides by cop involve domestic violence. This highlights an assumption. White people are also more likely to be under the influence during a crime. (25% to 31%) Why would you assume that black people would be as likely to even be in the deserved it category factoring for crime for violently resisting arrest.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0196064498700642
Going back to criminality and how you would expect a racist system to function you would assume there is no relationship to criminality and punishments in racist system or at least major moves to weaken that relationship or one a relationship weak enough to not spook sympathy from an otherwise apathetic majority. Part of the reason segregation is used as a tactic is to make it harder for it to expose unjustified structural violence. This is why one of the tactics of civil rights activists was to get themselves on tape getting brutalized by the police on purpose because it sparked sympathy from an otherwise apathetic majority. It wasnt that they just didnt care its that they just didnt get it till they saw black being hosed down or attacked for sitting on the wrong seat. Reliance on structural violence weakens an oppression system. Thats why you create institutions and resources that make minorities police themselves.
To add to criminality you wouldnt expect the results of racial system to match up in obvious ways to offend the majority if they are apathetic. Thus the racists create what are known as balancers. They make exceptions to the rule that buck trends to weaken claims of overt racism. Where I dont actually think the racism of the American was built with intention do have an example of similar oppression systems. Politcal prisons. (Hurray for human rights abuses so I can understand other ones)
https://youtu.be/xuAAPsiD768
For those that dont know communication management units are political prisoners that were created during the war on terror.
The prisoners there are locked up on suspicious charges focused on Islamic people. In order to avoid charges they locked up white dissidents as balancers for the racial demographics. These political prisoners were revealed when one of their inhabitants managed to prove he was locked up for political speech. If you wouldn't expect a racist system like that would line up to fundamentally obvious crime stats thanks to deception why would you assume a much larger racist system to that doesnt even line up to the statistics.
For instance I don't use the McClesky v Kemp just because I think it will make more innocent black go to prison but because it also effects how the severity of the punishment is chosen in relation to race as well as opening a ton of ways to discriminate by allowing criminality to not be the primary heuristic to the crime and allowing race to be a major heuristic in violation of the 14th ammendment(Also reasonable senses of decency). https://www.oyez.org/cases/1986/84-6811
For those unaware that is a supreme court case where a sociologist examining multiple factors found race was a massively important variable effecting the result of the case. (He didnt have info to check the specifics of what specific cause of the problem in the case was. Prosecutors and juries have immunities from examination)
The court agreed with the research and as the court is to do ruled that it was okay for trials to be racist in systematically observable patterns because actually expecting the states to make them substiantially less racist on a systemic level would be to much work (Apathy in action) and that the defendants need to prove how a specific trial is racist. They of course following this massive burden that substantially violates burdens of proof by giving even more protections to prosecutors and juries making harder for the same reason (Just Naked political convience rather expecting states to make fairly large system adjustments) as the supreme court is to do.
Sometimes you look at the system and just assume someone fucked up probably somewhere especially because the system was originally designed by complete racists. Sometimes policy makers just tell you. Also I reccomend looking up Mcintosh and the Insular Cases for other important racist supreme court cases for Native Americans and Puerto Ricans.
11:50 Its almost like the focus to stop arbitrary shootings in Los Angeles is lowering shootings and focusing on the rioters that come from social ills that are coming to light rather than the fact the LAPD isnt doing enough to their job right is fucking retarded.
12:45 the thing that is wrong with you is that youre questioning this from the perspective of how this operates rather than the vastly wide ways this couldve been operated. Alot dont involve having to expect just dealing with a cop going on someone's neck for 8:46
14:00 he brings up engagements and arrests. Most engagements are arbitrary and overly intrusive to an extent of causing harm. That makes the link to criminality even weaker.
15:00 they are not justified if they couldve been prevented from system design. Unless of course you view killing criminals without trial as acceptable losses. Canada the second highest cops killing civilians rate is less than ⅓ ours and the median of the industrialized countries they compared law enforcement murder rates to is like 1/20th.
https://www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2020/06/05/policekillings/
15:45 It's almost like complaining about the ergonomic inefficencies of the current system dont substantiate your point (See him litterally saying its almost impossible for them to do their job). Like at all. You're making the police abolitionists who say the institution should be replaced with something built from the ground for it not to be impossible to. Once again other countries dont fuck up this bad. Its often not even really the shooting cops fault so you probably shouldnt even bother blaming cops as individuals.
16:15 dont fucking make the identity affirmation bs argument. Alot more people will simply have flight or fight instincts kick in instead of the play dead instinct. Another reason resisting arrest is stupid. Innocent people shouldn't be expected to have to train mentally or otherwise for being arrested. We live in a society. You could also assume that racism is good reason to play dead/along. If an individual officer is fucking with you as a racist only need to get him around a bunch of nonracist cops if youre innocent. The person would obviously be acting paranoid or off instinct. This is why you shouldn't be looking at it at an individual rate.
17:00 self censorship again. Its almost like the deployment of officers of the same race make people less suspicious of them and less aware that all cops are arbitrarily use force. It also doesnt help black communities are underfunded and thus not trained as well to deescalte making doing their job harder. Another thing I want to mention is police corruption. The Nypd did a racial profiling scandal a while back. That was turned in by a black officer. Its almost like they expected the man to act like a racist. they did. Remember how I said they get minorities to police themselves in oppressive systems. This also would logically extend to the actual police officers. In short it isnt safe to simply hang your head up on racism not being the answer even if it isnt obvious.
a common tactic of maintaining an oppressive system is to encourage policing and self censorship within a community. One common way this is done is instilling a deep rooted sense of shame as well as providing a sense of security or other awards for alligning yourselves with the powers that be. This isnt as obvious or as powerful now in the US because of the black pride movement. However this occurs in multiple minority groups.
https://youtu.be/2G10g5bQa94
The FBI used black infiltrators to the BPP as well as a ton of bpp misconceptions that highlight the atmosphere of myths and misconceptions as it pertains to race.(As well as me having to explain racist systems yet again Sam because we spread myths on to how racists work)
https://youtu.be/5Luu1Beb8ng
Borrowed Observations from extra videos you can see to learn more about oppressive ideologies.
Fascism tries to maintain itself through maintaining an emotional and normalized ultranationalistic ideology to maintain a persons sense of belonging and maintain their spectrum of thoughts favorable to facism. It isnt like it is an easy to laugh at umbrella of ideologies.
They also adapt any and all tactics that help maintain that system.
The model I show is how less authoritarian fascists maintain their castes.
"State Violence is often a way of getting people invested in a hierarchy that
doesnt directly benefit them. You may not be at the top but if you're some where around the middle we can employ you as military or police to keep the lower classes in line. Many people will relinquish their rights to fascists in exchange for being the arm of the law"
https://youtu.be/WODwsKtyFQQ
"Many on twitter were stunned a while back at the relavation that alt right youtuber Braving Ruin, formerly edgy Sphinx, was of egyptian descent. In other words he ain't white. In a movement made up of white nationalists this seems like a baffling contradiction. It's not. He's a copt another Christian minority native to egypt that has been increasingly targeted in recent years."
In a testimony Ruin said it was basically about the islamophobia.
See why black pride is a thing so black people dont have to deal with the shame white supremacist systems try to impose on them to limit their spirit for independent and dissident development.(These are why minority pride movements are a thing)
See Malcolm X pointing out this
https://youtu.be/Bo5yjZDqoG8
A study pointing out how the black pride movement helped mobilize black people during the civil rights movement while also helping them gain support.
https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,19&qsp=1&q=black+pride+movement&qst=ib#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3DQJ-03PIAjY0J
This explains the point of minority pride movements as
"THE BLACK MOVEMENT TODAY STRENUOUSLY SEEKS NOT ONLY TO PRESERVE THE BASIC IDENTITY OF THE BLACK AMERICAN, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT SEEKS TO FOSTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DIFFERENT IMAGE, ONE WHICH WILL ERASE THE PREVJOUS
NEGATIVE IMAGE ASCRIBED TO HIM."
And
"NOT ONLY HAVE THERE BEEN CHANGES IN THE PUBLIC IMAGE OF THE BLACK AMERICAN, BUT INTERVAL CHANGES APE OCCURRING IN TILE SELF-IMAGE AS WELL. THE AMERICAN SOCIElY OF AFFLUENCE HAS ENGENDERED IN THE BLACK AMERICAN BUDDING EXPECTATIONS AND LOFTY ASPIRATIONS."
https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED035681.pdf
Also the fact it was designed to help minorities with psychological issues with the shaming of racial minorities
https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Mia_Smith_Bynum/publication/6575615_Racism_experiences_and_psychological_functioning_in_African_American_college_freshmen_Is_racial_socialization_a_buffelinks/0a85e536a8e0ac5904000000.pdf
For those who care about the white pride like argument the reason is that due to both being made in the context of white supremacy black pride movements tend to openly be nonexclusionary by adopting ethnonationalist policies. The thing that is different between those pride movements and the majority equivalent is that those ones are far more tied to ethnocentric beliefs
https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/8071/77b6a7553179a7b71c9b0aabdd327dd23d87.pdf
See why White Nationalist africa would fund independent nationalistic development for its african tribes so they would have national divisions grown within acceptable bounds for getting in the way of collaboration against the white nationalists and so they would so seperated they would litterally be speaking different languages to one another to further tensions.
An study concluding the purpose of the bantu education was to instill black people with an education that would make them the cheap labour class they wanted out of them.(See why you don't want racial policies heavily controlled solely by the employing class of people because they craft racist markets to reward themselves first)
https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/3098501.pdf?casa_token=KPx4Aqau0lUAAAAA:XoNGqpf_ugWxIxTPE4iN4TYFoVTdHwlzN4UrVxc_CfVqK1SV3OyLQLzRuxMAxwsAgOd7JjBfZvLQPlv4d8ngcuJtGF50wZ2ljgL9v_k8ctb6kk56AINB-A
"On another level, there are linguistic tensions between the ethnic Europeans and the black majority, mostly in regard to language instruction in schools. This issue was the spark that ignited the tragic Soweto riots in 1976." For context on how severely the nationalistic divisions are regarded
"These reserves are, for the most part, in remote and barren areas where poverty, malnutrition, and mortality are worse than in the cities. In addition, as tribal groups have traditionally been defined by language, the homelands separate blacks linguistically, thus limiting their contact with people from other groups" (The reserves are heavily inspired by US Native American Reservations https://africasacountry.com/2014/03/white-history-month-the-american-reservation-became-the-south-african-reserve)
https://www.culturalsurvival.org/publications/cultural-survival-quarterly/language-policy-and-oppression-south-africa
Another study highlighting how South African Blacks are conditioned to identify with the white population and adopt racist ideas… against black people. (Yeah this is why prejudice plus power idea of racism doesnt explain that black people cant be racist. It would actually instead make people look to see how the system encourages minorities to police themselves)
https://psycnet.apa.org/record/1959-06046-001
See also how the culture of pressure to conformance to systems that oppress minorities can be seen in videos like this.
https://youtu.be/vRBsaJPkt2Q
Highlighting a pattern of trans people trying to use this exact logic by acting transphobic to trans people that are harder to sympathize with
See how this relates to gay rights and gay shame in its link to internalized homophobia and poorer health outcomes
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/pmc2678796/
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1300/J082v37n03_03
Also see africans selling other africans to europeans in the transatlantic slave trade. The idea that minorities wouldnt be holdnt anti group attitudes in a racist social system is laughable. This is black tokenism where you assume an action isnt racist because a black person did it.
This is to state racial profiling being carried out for an instution reasons by black men highlight both self censorship and self regulation even if noone hates black people. Often targeting of black people is to target poorer communities that cant resist quotas as easily. The idea that minority cops are more likely to shoot suspects doesnt even prove the cops dont act in a prejudically averse manner because in the context of racist system they too may also be racist against those minorities the exact same minorities as themselves and be even less likely to realize how racist it specifically because they are black. Just like the south africans i referenced from earlier studies
this isnt even a thing blm is trying to prove and he still is using incorrect logic. They dont need to prove designers or intentions unless they think they need to punish people. They only have to prove it is racist because the human costs of the system design and not care about litterally anything else.
https://youtu.be/6aEaubXjWx4
To take another reference to altmeyer(Psychologist and researcher) and authoritarian followers. Very useful for understanding how maintaining apathy is done in oppressive regimes.
Also for the first thing
Also RWAs is psychology term not a term referring posistion on political compass
45:00 the culture of he was no angel people is explained here
47:00 where he covers aggressive behavior
51:00 for if you want to skip ahead cause you get the context
1:36:00 arm of the law summary
Also vital fact for the fight against facism
2:14:00 Dorm room college sex is floated as a solution to make people less authoritarians
17:45 it doesn't matter if is hard to not kill criminals. We literally dump military equipment on the police we can make it easier and avoid killing them.
19:00 um the big problem is actually a lack of deescaltion training. Like if they keep being violent they are gonna fuck up given time.
19:30 they are violent for institutional and socioeconomic reasons. Like how crime often works. See other countries dont have this problem

2020.06.26 20:38 lordword83 Can anybody make any recommendations on what to do next please?

First of all, straight out, I want to be a Gs employee, with that in mind, I accepted a Schedule A position(I have infinite medical problems), Gs-5, at the base that we live at, we are Gs employees, both, me and my husband.
Before Covid, I had a bunch of interviews alined for RG Pathways with the IRS, DEA, etc for Gs-9 and higher.
I finished a Bachelor's degree in Business, then my L.L.B. less than 2 years ago and I'll graduate from my L.L.M. in 1 week.
I have worked as a "lawyer" supervised by the lawyer that owned the law firm where I worked at in California for 2 years, I went to court, prison, did all kind of papers by myself...,I speak Spanish as my first language btw, I also did pro-bono cases for the Superior Court of Los Angeles for 1 year while attending Law School( Domestic abuse, Immigration visas, divorces, etc.)
I just came back from volunteering for 1 year at the NMCRS as a case workefinancial technician because I couldn't get any paid jobs at the base that we were stationed at due to my husband's job.
Most of the Pathways positions I apply for got cancelled and in Hawaii there are not that many to start with.
I'm not sure if my resume is not correct but I don't really get many interviews and let me tell you, I'm applying for everything: Open to the public, Schedule A, Overseas employee relatives, Recent Graduates and Current students.
To top all of this off....I'll give birth in the next 3 months....and even tho I will only take 1 or 2 weeks off like I did before, I'm worried about doing interviews with this obvious pregnant belly and what the employers might think(I know they can't discriminate but come on....)
Any ideas please how can I improve my chances?
Thank you in advance, I really appreciate any insight.

2020.05.29 09:16 PattyMac811 Quick Late Night Mock For Y'all To Tear Apart

I used tankathon to simulate the lottery. Went with whatever the order was after five clicks. The Top 4 went GS, DET, ATL, CLE.
I threw in a couple trades. I have it ingrained in my mind that LaMelo will end up with the Knicks. Whether they win the lottery or not. They have the draft capital to make a move up.
After 4 picks and Wiseman still on the board I had Washington trading up. He might be one of the few high impact players in the draft and Washington only has Thomas Bryant and Mo Wagner for bigs.
I also have a feeling Philly will move up for a shooter. They have four 2nd round picks. They've got the capital to jump up a few spots.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
TRADE: New York trades pick #6, pick #27, a future 1st round pick (Lottery protected in ’21, Top 8 protected in ’22, Top 4 protected in ’23 and unprotected in ’24) and a 2021 2nd round pick (v/CHA) to Golden State in exchange for pick #1.
  1. New York Knicks (v/GS) – LaMelo Ball, G, Illawarra (USA)
  2. Detroit Pistons – Anthony Edwards, SG, Georgia
  3. Atlanta Hawks – Killian Hayes, G, Ratiopharm Ulm (France)
  4. Cleveland Cavaliers – Deni Avdija, SF, Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel)
TRADE: Washington trades pick #9 and a future 1st round pick (Lottery protected in ’21, Top 4 protected in ’22, unprotected in ’23) to Minnesota in exchange for pick #5.
  1. Washington Wizards (v/MIN) – James Wiseman, C, Memphis

    2. Chicago Bulls – Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
    3. Charlotte Hornets – Devin Vassell, G/F, Florida State
    4. Minnesota Timberwolves (v/WAS) – Onyeka Okongwu, PF/C, USC
TRADE: Philadelphia trades pick #22, pick #34, and pick #36 to Phoenix in exchange for pick #10.
  1. Philadelphia 76ers (v/PHO) – Cole Anthony, PG, North Carolina
    1. San Antonio Spurs – Isaac Okoro, SF, Auburn
    2. Sacramento Kings – R.J. Hampton, G, NZ Breakers (USA)

21/y-23/y(Private sector)- I perused a career as a firefighter, took classes and worked as an EMT for an ambulance company as well as an EMT for the ER department at my local hospital. I applied for the Los Angeles Fire Department and passed the exam and Interview with 95%. But unfortunately was not selected for the position. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated with myself. I knew I could try again, but as I watched people only get hired if they knew someone or related to someone, I became discouraged to continue. And decided to seek another path. I applied for the VA as a Medical Support Assistant. I wanted to combine my medical experience with my experience dealing with military.

Very grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. Currently looking to improve. I am not sure where I would want to go from here? Should I go back to school? I was looking at degrees in Public Administration. But I would have to do classes online. Currently teleworking.
Any advice helps.

2020.05.17 21:03 tutetibiimperes Nugu Roundup #39 - NewKidd on the Block - 200517

Hello and welcome to the latest Nugu Roundup!
What is this?: This is a weekly feature designed to highlight the unknown/underappreciated groups and soloists working hard in the Kpop world that often fall under the radar. Please share your own information, favorite performance videos, fanmeet stories, or anything else relevant below!
Last week we had a special crossover event with Jukebox! This week let's check out a cool new boy group that had an interesting debut strategy, let's get to know NewKidd!
What is Nugu?: While in Korean it literally means 'Who' in the broader Kpop context it refers to groups that are generally unknown amongst the greater public. It doesn't have to mean they're extremely new, though it can, and there are of course varying degrees of 'unknown' which some groups having very strong niche fandoms and others being almost invisible. I take a fairly broad view and will include groups that may be known to some, but who don't have widespread name recognition.
Let's get on with the show...
________________________________________________________
NewKidd
Who are they? NewKidd is a 7 member boy group under J-Flo Entertainment. Their name stands for "Newgeneration key of the Dream"
Company: NewKidd appears to be the only group under J-Flo. J-Flo says that their company name comes from combining the words 'J' and 'Flo' which represent 'July' and 'Awesomeness' (this is straight from the company website...) They endeavor to find and train new stars who 'Shine bright like July'.
Members
Debuts
Most Recent Comeback: November 28th, 2019 with Come (MV) Live Stage (Link)
YouTube Channel: NewKidd Official
Random Stuff
Trivia: NewKidd has performed internationally in Kazakhstan, The Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and Brazil. Jinkown and Yunmin have been chosen as official models for the Caffe Bene chain of cafes. They got to perform a BTS dance cover in front of BTS at the 6th EDAILY Cultural Celebration. ________________________________________________________
Soloist of the Week
HENNY
Who is she?: Henny is the debut soloist for Corazon Entertainment, who also represents rapper D.Robit, and pre-debut soloist ROA.
Age: 24 (IA)
Debut: October 19th, 2019 with Look at Me (MV) Live Performance (Link) A summery tropical dance-pop tune
Most Recent Release: September 18th, 2019 with 1,2,3 (audio) Live Performance (link) A latin influenced reggaeton song
YouTube Channel: Henny
TikTok: Henny Official

In Memorium
BLADY
Who were they?: A four-five member girl group under Star Planet Entertainment. Their name originally stood for 'Black Lady', meaning all colors mixed, but was later changed to mean 'Blessed Lady' after the 2nd incarnation of the group. Their fandom name was Honey.B
Company: Originally under SY6 Entertainement, and later Star Planet Entertainment, which I can't seem to find any information on, they may have changed their name or ceased operations.
Releases
Active Between: May 6th, 2011 - October 20th, 2017
Random Stuff
YouTube Channels: BladyTV, Star Planet Entertainment, SY6 Entertainment
Member YouTube Channels
Reasons for Disbandment: No official statement given, but looking at the numerous lineup changes throughout the history of the group and the lack of success on the charts it's possible the company folded or just decided to pull the plug. When it came time for the release of Giru's solo album there were originally plans for an MV, however the company could not pay for it and the home-made MV which was created was deemed too low in quality to release.
Trivia: Member Gabin was formerly a member of 2NB with EXID's Solji. Member Tina was born in Los Angeles and is good friends with Ashley of Ladies Code. Member CoCo later joined CocoSori and has since become a YouTuber and done solo work. Member Yeji redebuted as Ryeowon (her real name) as a member of PRISM. Having had eight members leave over the course of the group's career puts Blady in the top-ten of 'most members lost' lists (though still far behind Rania, Baba, and BADKIZ).
___________________________________________________
That's it for today, let's get the discussion on!
As always, if you have any suggestions for groups, content, or things you'd like to see, please let me know in the comments below.
Also as always, a big shout-out to u/not-named-in-credits for founding nugutown and u/sharnaranwan for continuing the work over there.

2020.04.30 16:19 Mel0n_Collie [OC] What if every world cup team had the same population? - Group B

Afternoon all hope you’re staying safe and sane in lockdown and haven’t resorted to making in depth hypotheticals and posting them on sport forums…
After an unbelievable response to Group A I’m delighted to be able to bring you the second installment of the alternative World Cup, for anyone who didn’t manage to have a look at the first four teams here’s a link to yesterday’s post.
Group A
On to Group B and it may be my favourite pool of the lot; plenty of quality on show and results that aren’t quite as predetermined as others (ipso facto it doesn’t contain an Indian team). It’s also the group that contains the most politically controversial combinations, but I’ve found in the last month or so that it’s a better time than any to make friends with your neighbors.
Group B
Greater Khorasan
Iran, Afghanistan, 9 Iraqi Governorates (Dohuk, Arbil, Sulaymaniyah, Nineveh, Kirkuk, Saladin, Diyala, Wasit, Maysan), 6 Administrative Units of Pakistan (All except Punjab)
Population (millions): 237.31
Probably for the best if I move straight onto the football when talking about this side. The region in question has five and a half World Cup qualifications between them, along with three and a half Asian cups, all emanating from the two most westernly countries (geographical not ideological).
In the modern age Iran has all but cemented itself as mainland Asia’s most impressive footballing nation, qualifying for four of the last six World Cups. Frustratingly for the Persian Stars they’ve yet to escape the group but by no means have the reputation as an easy three points; they came tantalisingly close to usurping the Potrugese in the most recent edition, and four years previous held Argentina to a goalless draw for the full 90 minutes, unfortunately there was also injury time.
Perhaps the Iranian’s most important appearance in the ‘festival of football’ was a politically insinuated 2-1 win against the United States in 1998. The virtuous manner in which the game was played at a time of great tension between the two nations was perhaps the closest modern microcosm of the fabled Christmas truce of 1914. Although modest, Iran’s pedigree appears ever accelerating, a model example of an organically growing football nation.
Iran’s ticket to Qatar 2022 is currently under threat by noisy neighbors Iraq who top their qualifying group with three games remaining. The protagonist of my personal favourite Asian footballing moment enter this scenario having been divided into two, with pretty much everything north of Baghdad belonging to this team, or as I like to call it, Sunni side up.
Afghanistan and Pakistan make up the numbers for this side, both sitting well in triple figures in the FIFA rankings, the Afghans have only had a national league system since 2012, and if you go to Pakistan looking for a Football match you’ll hear the sound of crickets followed by the sound of Cricket.

The name that jumps out immediately to most will be Brighton’s Alireza Jahanbaksh. Despite a slow start to his life in England the man from Jirandeh won the Eredivisie golden boot from a wide position just two years ago, and scored this goal against Chelsea on new year's day, so his talent is evident to all.
The first name on the team sheet however is standout-striker Sardar Azmoun who earns a living for Zenit St. Petersburg. With an emphatic 32 goals in 50 national appearances at the age of 25 he would be well on his way to being the record goalscorer for most nations, unfortunately for Sardar he is the countryman of statistical anomaly Ali Daei who’s 109 goals demand their own wikipedia page
Iraqi-American wingback Justin Meram is one of three non-iranian’s in the squad, I recommend his 2018 piece in the players tribune which tells his fascinating story of fighting for national pride amidst adversity.
Greater Shanghai
Shanghai, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, three Shandong districts (Heze, Jining, Zaozhuang)
Population (millions): 235.48
Someone in the comments may be able to find me a more suitable name but I think it’s clear that Shanghai is the major inclusion in this region.
The world's third largest city is home to two CSL financial heavyweights Shanghai SIPG & Shenhua, the latter of whom have boasted the likes of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Tim Cahill and Carlos Tevez on their books. SIPG however are the current juggernauts in the city with familiar names such as Marko Arnautovic, Oscar and Hulk currently enjoying a pay day out east, unfortunately for the region, none of them are able to pull an Elkeson and become Chinese overnight.
The most notable past product of this area is former Crystal Palace defender Fan Zhiyi, who was the first Chinese player to sign a permanent contract in England. The penalty taking centre back earned 106 caps for ‘team dragon’ and scored two vital goals in their only successful qualifying campaign to date, presumably ensuring he never has to pay for a Tsing Tao ever again.
The squad itself has some exciting players, and one particular star doing his nation proud in La Liga.

The prodigal attacking talent of Wu Lei is a foreshadowing of everything Chinese football hopes to become. A record 102 goals in six seasons for SIPG earned the man from Nanjing an unprecedented move to Espanyol in 2018, becoming the first Chinese player to sign permanently to a La Liga side. In January of this year Lei scored a decisive equaliser against Barcelona in the Derbi barceloní, arguably the most high profile achievement of any Chinese national to date.
Between the sticks will be China’s no.1, Yan Junling who has made 322 appearances for his hometown club, and is revered as one of Asia’s greatest goalkeepers.
One of the better Chinese sides in the tournament, could Wu Lei’s mammoth ability take them out of the group stage?

One of football’s most questioned ‘what if’s’. If you’ve frequented this sub as long as I have you would have stumbled upon plenty of iterations of ‘What would Yugoslavia national team look like today’ or ‘Eastern European XI, well strap in boys and girls because here comes another one.
Eastern Europe is perhaps the busiest collection of countries in a confined area, you pass five countries travelling from Zagreb to Skopje but it’s roughly the same distance as Plymouth to Newcastle (green army).
In the 21st century the region has 12 World Cup qualifications between them, two semi-finalists, one European championship win, and in an individual capacity countless Champions League medals. If Croatia alone can reach a World Cup final, what can they do with a 235 million person injection?

I’m a huge fan of this team, household names in every outfield position, and Ballon D’or winner Luka Modric leading a metronomic midfield.
Unsurprisingly the Croats are the most generous contributors to this side with seven inclusions, although Serbia are close behind with five. After initially separating Slovenia, this region trust both their keeper spots with the safe Slovene hands of Oblak and Handanovic.
In between generations, 80million strong Turkey only managed to squeeze one man into the 22, Sonyuncu gets the nod over Sokratis who have had obverse Premier League campaigns. The most populous country in the region are waiting on Cengiz Under and Enes Unal to blossom from young talent to the real deal.
I think the squad speaks for itself when it comes to this team, perhaps the greatest benefactor of the stipulations of this tournament, and I predict a semi-final exit.
Lower Middle East
Egypt, Isreal, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, 10 Governorates of Iraq (Al-Anbar, Al-Najaf, Al-Muthanna, Al-Basrah, Karbala, Babil, Al-Qadisiyah, Thi Qar, Baghdad)

I once again implore you to remember that this is all absolute fiction, and I’m writing to you as a football fan with as much political interest as Gunnersaurus, that lefty fuck.
A huge region that spans three confederations creates a unique and on their day rather lucrative squad.
Stars of the past from this region include Yossi Benayoun, Mido and Saeed Al-Owairan who was responsible for one of the greatest solo goals the World Cup has seen
If you were underwhelmed by those previous legends you’d be correct as this may well be the ‘golden generation’ for this particular corner of the world.
This squad contains a genuinely fearsome front line and competence all over the pitch, another terrific varied squad in a group that could offer up some incredibly close contests.

No prizes for guessing the star man, the gap between Mohammed Salah and Egypts next best export is as long as the Nile, but he isn’t the only forward that knows how to rack up the goals.
Israel scored 16 goals in a frustrating and unsuccessful 10 game qualifying campaign for next years ‘Euro 2020’. 15 of those came from the strike partnership of Moanes Dabbur and Eran Zahavi, let down by a torrid defense, they may be happy to apply their finishing talents in front of a slightly sturdier spine.
Dubbed ‘the greatest player never to leave Asia’, Omar Abdulrahman will show off his incredible technique on the World stage for the first time since the London Olympics. A youtube compilation maker’s wet dream, the football fan in me is frustrated he never chose to ply his trade in Europe, but mourning one player’s prime just shows how spoiled us Europeans are.
Omar Al-Soma will come off the bench and try to emulate at least one of his 160 Al Ahli goals, the Syrian completes an impressive forward roster, a top heavy side that I predict will be involved in some high scoring games.
There we go, hope you all enjoyed this installment as much as yesterday. Check back tomorrow to see the teams of Sadio Mané, Chris Wood and ‘Ahamed Shazny’… nah neither have I.
